For a little while your people possessed your holy place, but now our enemies have trampled down your sanctuary.

The enemy has damaged everything in the sanctuary.Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place; They set up their banners for signs.They seem like men who lift up Axes among the thick trees.And now they break down its carved work, all at once, With axes and hammers.They have set fire to Your sanctuary; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name to the ground.

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months.

How the gold has become dim! How changed the fine gold! The stones of the sanctuary are scattered At the head of every street.

“ For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.

And they shall call them The Holy People, The Redeemed of the Lord; And you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken.

The adversary has spread his hand Over all her pleasant things; For she has seen the nations enter her sanctuary, Those whom You commanded Not to enter Your assembly.

His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; He shall destroy fearfully, And shall prosper and thrive; He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people.

and that He will set you high above all nations which He has made, in praise, in name, and in honor, and that you may be a holy people to the Lord your God, just as He has spoken.”

Our holy and beautiful temple, Where our fathers praised You, Is burned up with fire; And all our pleasant things are laid waste.Will You restrain Yourself because of these things, O Lord? Will You hold Your peace, and afflict us very severely?
