Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said,“ The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.”

Some of the believers were Pharisees. They stood up and said,“ The Gentiles must be circumcised. They must obey the law of Moses.”

But some believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees rose up and said,“ It is necessary to circumcise them and to order them to keep the law of Moses.”

But then some of the believers who belonged to the sect of the Pharisees stood up and insisted,“ The Gentile converts must be circumcised and required to follow the law of Moses.”

爾時有自猶太來者、誡諸兄弟曰：『苟不依摩西舊例、領受割禮、則不能蒙救恩。』

予生八日、即受割禮；以血統論、固義塞人也、屬於便雅明支派、而出於希伯萊人之希伯萊人也。以律法論、固法利塞人也以熱情論、固迫辱聖教會、不遺餘力者也。以守法論、固無懈可擊也。然昔以為得、今以為失：無他、為基督之故也。以予視之、一切莫非失也；惟認識吾主基督耶穌之為得耳。因此予已犧牲一切、而視之如糟粕、一心惟望贏得基督、

近聞有人由此前來、以言擾爾、搖惑爾心、此輩實未受吾儕之命、

夫基督之予吾人以解放也、其非欲吾人享受自由乎？故吾儕當確立不移、不宜妄自菲薄、復入奴隸之軛也。我葆樂剴切告爾、爾如承受割禮、則基督於爾為無益。不寧惟是、凡承受割禮者、即有遵行全部律法之義務。

彼倘肯作證、必知予自幼遵奉吾教中最嚴格之一宗、固法利塞也。今予立此而受審者、正以期望天主所許於吾祖之諾言。

依吾等所見、此人實為蝥賊、煽動普天下猶太人作亂、又係納匝勒異端之一首領、

眾聞之、無不歸榮天主、謂葆樂曰：『爾觀猶太人之信教者盈千累萬、篤守摩西律法；
