且由是錫以寶貴豐厚之許、俾爾得脫在世因慾之敗壞、克與夫上帝之性、

許我尊榮景福、不為斯世惡俗所囿、於上帝之性情、是則是傚、

又以己之榮與德、許我以至大至寶之恩、使我儕我儕原文作爾曹賴此得脫斯世由慾而生之敗壞、得與天主同性、

Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

He has also given us his very great and valuable promises. He did it so you could share in his nature. You can share in it because you’ve escaped from the evil in the world. This evil is caused by sinful desires.

務當以昨死今生之精神、易以新我。新我者、按天主之典型、依仁義之真諦而締造者也。

夫肉身之父之教訓吾人也，不過數春、且多憑其私意而行之；若夫天主之所為、則必於吾人為有益、欲使吾人同化於彼之聖德耳。

吾人以無帕之面、睟然反映主之光輝、榮上增榮、漸與所映者融為一象；此則主之聖神之妙工也。

而易以新人矣。是宜日新又新、止於良知、而克肖作育新人之主也。

是故主囑爾等獨立特行、毅然離眾、而自成一群。『毋染一塵、吾必納爾。吾願作爾慈父、爾當為吾子女。』此乃全能主宰之語也！親愛之兄弟乎、吾人既承此恩諾、亟應蕩穢滌污、務求心跡雙清、戰戰兢兢、敬事天主、以臻聖德純全之域也。

蓋斯輩大言不慚、提倡邪淫；凡初脫惡習者、鮮不受惑；以自由為號召、而自身則為腐敗之奴隸。蓋為邪惡所克者、即成邪惡之奴矣。夫既因認識吾主耶穌基督、而脫濁世之習氣、今復重入羅網、從此休矣！且其晚節必有較前更醜者焉。

凡播種於慾田者、必於慾田穫朽腐之果；而播種於靈田者、則於靈田穫常生之果。

凡納之者。厥名是信。授以權能。超凡入聖。天主兒女。卓哉身分。若輩之生。非緣血氣。惟自天主。無與人意。

今耶穌所掌大司祭之職、實非若輩所得同日而語；正如彼所為仲介之盟約、與夫斯約所根據之恩諾、悉非舊緒所得而比擬也。使舊約已屬完美無缺、應無另立新約之餘地；顧天主嘗責先人曰：『主曰：「時將至、爾其拭目視！吾與義塞及猶太、亟欲訂立新盟約。曩者吾攜厥祖出埃及、亦有所締結。若輩不守吾約遭擯棄、新約迥與舊約異！」主曰：「時既至、當與義塞約如次欲將吾誡命、置彼腔子裏；真諦與妙道、深深銘腑肺；我為彼主宰、彼為我子民其時人人心中皆識主、無庸國人昆弟相提醒；人無大與小、悉與我相親；吾願寬宥其諸惡、不欲再念其罪行。」』

且其所以為新約之仲介者、亦欲以一己之死、贖人於舊約下所犯之眾罪、而令蒙召者得承受所許之永遠基業耳。

耶穌基督之僕兼宗徒、西門、伯鐸祿、致書於因我天主救主耶穌基督之仁義而與我輩一體共承無上之寶信者曰：

不復徇人欲、惟循天主聖意、以度餘生。夫過去之日、與世俗同流合污、放縱恣肆、沈湎酒色、崇拜偶像、不已足乎？

爾中一切鬥爭紛擾、果何由而起？非由爾之情慾交戰於內乎？爾貪而不得、乃行兇殺；妒而不獲乃起爭奪。爾之所以不得者、以爾不求也；求而不得者、以爾求之不以其道、蓋爾所求者、徒為縱情恣慾而已

故無論天主之恩諾為如何多且盛也、惟在耶穌身上、則皆實事求是、無絲毫之虛妄；而吾人之所以能心悅誠服、歸榮於天主、而應『心焉祝之』者、亦憑耶穌而已矣。

夫天主所許之恩諾、早向亞伯漢為之、『以及其裔。』於此所當注意者、主未曰「及爾眾裔、」一若多數也者；但曰：「以及其裔、」裔一而已、基督是也。

我兄弟骨肉者、義塞人也；其名分則屬天主之子女；凡光榮、盟約、律法、禮儀、以及重重恩諾、無一而非其固有之家業；
