當吾人尚在肉身之權下、吾人之四肢百體、在在受罪惡之牽引。此罪惡者、生於情慾、滋於律法、終則致死亡之果者也。

For when we were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death.

The power of sin used to control us. The law stirred up sinful desires in us. So the things we did resulted in death.

For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death.

When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death.

死為害者罪也、罪克我者法也、

故當滅去人欲、即淫行、污穢、比頑童、邪僻、貪婪、貪婪與拜偶像一也、

戰鬥爭競、何自而來、非欲戰於中而生乎、

律法立、而罪之多以顯、亦罪多、而恩之洪益彰、

作惡則犯法、犯法即作惡、

有法、此有刑、無法、則無犯法、

欲動生惡、惡盈致死、

是不能悅於上帝者、從欲也、浸假上帝之神在爾心、則爾不從欲而從神矣、不有基督神者、非其徒也、

惟四體不覺有一法、與吾心之法戰、執我從四體之惡法、

蓋恃法而行者、無人得稱義於上帝前、法第使人知罪耳、

賜我有能為新約之役、非循舊典、乃本於神、舊典致死、本神致生、昔摩西面暫榮、以色列人不能注目視彼、夫以舊典致死之法鐫諸石、其榮且如此、況本神之法、其榮不更甚哉、若定罪之法榮、則稱義之法益榮、

蓋惡念、兇殺、姦淫、苟合、盜竊、妄證、訕謗、皆由心而起、斯乃污人、

宜思爾族為異邦人、惟外貌受人割禮者、議爾未嘗受割、

由身生者、身也、由神生者、神也、

然則何以言之、律法豈惡之因乎、曰、不然、非法無以見惡、蓋律法不禁欲、吾末由識欲、惡以誡而乘機、眾欲動於中、未有法、則惡不生、故昔未有法而我生、誡至、惡生而我死、誡本生我、反以死我、蓋惡以誡乘機誘我、因而死我、夫律法聖、誡亦聖、義且善也、曰、誡既善、乃為死我何耶、曰、不然、我之惡、以誡之善致死、是我之惡、因誡愈形其惡者也、

是以上帝聽其縱慾污行、婦女以順性之用、變為逆性之施、

我儕素無知弗信、見惑於人、從嗜慾、樂佚樂、暴戾、媢嫉、為人所怨、而己亦尤人、

爾固昏庸、我試因人所言言之、爾曾獻四體為惡之僕、致作狂、今當獻四體為義之僕、以作聖、

蓋罪惡之償值、死亡、上帝之恩賜、永生也、要惟賴吾主耶穌基督為然、

夫從欲者、其行可知、姦淫、苟合、污穢、邪侈、拜偶像、用巫術、結仇、爭鬥、媢嫉、憤怒、朋黨、釁隙、異端、嫉妒、兇頑、沉湎、蕩檢之類、我嘗言之、今申命汝、凡行是者、不能得上帝國、

爾如何貌取人、是蹈於惡、為法所譴、不免罪戾、守全法而犯一誡者、無異犯眾誡、
