蓋吾人之生也、為主而生；死也、為主而死；生為主之徒、死為主之屬、如是而已矣。

我们若活着，是为主而活；若死了，是为主而死。所以，我们或活或死总是主的人。

If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

If we live, we live to honor the Lord. If we die, we die to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.

亦所以償吾心期、終不致有所愧忝。因是平生勇氣、至今未衰。必欲獻吾之身、以弘基督。生可也、死亦可也。

基督之為吾人而死、亦欲吾人無論生前死後、與之共生而已。

惟此中亦各按其序：基督實為先薦之果、而信奉基督者之復活、則有待乎基督之重臨；

葆樂曰：『何事痛泣、令我傷心？吾因主名、不第被縛、即舍身於耶路撒冷、亦所欣願。』

不寧惟是、苟能有補於爾等之信德、即須傾流吾血、以作獻祭之酒、亦所甘心；且將因爾等之樂而樂焉。

夫大維在世、既完成天主之旨、及其既逝、與列祖同塋、則已朽壞；

夫吾人既信耶穌之死而復活、亦應信天主必引諸凡安寢於耶穌懷中者、與之俱來也。抑又有進者、按主之言、即同道中於主重臨之日、尚存人世者、亦必不能較已亡者早達天國。彼時號令一出。總領天神一呼、天主之號角一鳴、主乃自天降臨、而已亡之信徒、既先復活；於是同道中之尚在人間者、乃將與彼等一齊被攝入雲、迎主於天際而永與相偕矣。望爾等彼此以斯言互相慰藉。

又聞一音發自天上曰：『書之：此後庇主之蔭而死者、洵為有福。聖神曰：「誠哉、若輩必得釋其勞苦、而永享安寧；以若輩平生功德常隨其身。」』

彼為從事於基督之工作、而瀕於死、不惜代爾冒險、以周予之急；若是之人、實可敬也。

然吾於生命置之度外、無所顧惜。但望能完成吾之行程、及所受於主耶穌之使命、以證天主恩寵之福音而已。

此言乃預示伯鐸祿將如何致命、以光榮天主耳。言已、又諭之曰：『從予！』

葆樂也、亞波羅也、基法也、宇宙也、生也、死也、現在也、將來也、一切之一切也、皆屬於爾矣、爾則屬於基督、而基督屬於天主。
