For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

The one in authority serves God for your good. But if you do wrong, watch out! Rulers don’t carry a sword for no reason at all. They serve God. And God is carrying out his anger through them. The ruler punishes anyone who does wrong.

凡我良朋、毋伸己冤、寧待主怒、記有之、主曰、伸冤在我、我必報之、

告之曰、爾其謹恪、聽訟非為人、乃代耶和華、蓋聽訟之時、耶和華實鑒之、

是宜輸稅、居位者上帝之執事、恆執斯役、

哲士有云、聽訟時毋偏袒。視惡為善、民人怨詛。

我震怒以東、必使我民以色列族、侵伐其土地、以雪我忿、使知我實降是災、我耶和華已言之矣。

被殺之戚屬、可報其仇、遇即殺之。若蓄怨而刺人、或伏要而射人、或生釁而手擊人、置人於死地、是誠殺人者、必死毋赦、被殺之戚屬遇即殺之、如毫無釁隙、而猝然刺及、或非伏要、而以物相射、或不見而擲石、致人於死、本非結讎、不欲害人、則會眾必於殺人報仇者之間循例而剖析。救殺人者脫於報仇者手、既遁於逋逃之藪、必使居彼、以待受聖膏之祭司長終、則無故焉。如殺人者出逋逃之邑郊、報仇者在外遇而殺之、則罪不之及、

當頌美爾之上帝耶和華、以爾為悅、使繼國位、耶和華恆愛以色列族、使爾為王、秉厥公義、以聽其訟。

凡以色列族、與其賓旅、誤殺人者、未見鞫於會眾、而被殺之戚屬欲報其仇、則可遁於斯邑、不致死亡、

喑者代為口、危者伸其冤。秉公義、救貧乏。

王一怒必加殺戮、故智者宜求息怒焉。

賢王驅逐惡人、加以蹂躪、

慾不可縱、傷乃良朋、主必伸其冤、我素丁寧告爾、

王之震怒、若獅咆哮、犯之者自取其戾。

我曰、雅各之長者、以色列族之士師、宜聽我言、聽訟之理、非爾所當知乎、惟爾惡善好惡、剝人之皮、刳人之肉、惟餘骨骸、爾去我民之皮、而噬其肉、折其骨割之為臠、投之鼎鑊、爾籲耶和華、而耶和華不復垂念、因爾妄作、棄爾如遺、

謂爾曹聽訟、行私袒惡、將至何時兮、維彼孤子、貧乏煢獨、當為之伸冤兮、窮民遭難、爾其援手、毋為惡人所害兮。

雅各家之長者、以色列族之士師、疾仁義、反公平者、宜聽我言、

邑中之牧伯若狼、行其殘害、肆其吞噬、以獲不義之利。

王坐鞫民、見惡人則擯斥之。

體則肥胖、容有光華、作惡勝於尋常、孤貧被控不為折中。

既指上帝而誓、必守王命、勿謀不軌、勿致位而不辭、爾若是、恐干王怒、蓋發號出令、由王獨斷。

既誤擊同儕、素無仇隙、則被殺之戚屬追及、長老不得以殺人者解與其手、
