懶惰人白羨慕着，也一無所得；殷勤的人必得豐裕。

還有一點，你們知道這時機已是多麼危急了。已是該從睡眠中醒起的鐘點了；因為救恩、現今比我們初信時、更接近於我們了。

於是船長去找他，對他說：『沉睡的人哪，你為甚麼這樣？起來，呼求你的神，或者那神想念到我們，使我們不至於滅亡啊。』

應當清醒過來，按正義行；別犯罪了。有人對於上帝只是無知無識；我說這話、是要讓你們羞愧的。

我經過懶惰人的田地，全無心思之人的葡萄園；只見蒺藜長滿了地皮！刺草蓋滿了田面！其石牆也翻毁了！我看了就留心思想，我看着就得了訓誨：『且睡片時，且打盹片時，且抱着手躺着片時』，你的貧窮就如攔路賊忽來，你的窮乏就像武裝匪來到了！

我們在你們那裏的時候、也屢次囑咐你們說：『人若不肯作工，就不該喫飯。』
