The elders of Moab and Midian left, taking with them the fee for divination. When they came to Balaam, they told him what Balak had said.

The elders of Moab and Midian left. They took with them the money they knew Balaam would ask for. They wanted him to use evil magic to figure things out for them. They came to where Balaam was. And they told him what Balak had said.

Balak’s messengers, who were elders of Moab and Midian, set out with money to pay Balaam to place a curse upon Israel. They went to Balaam and delivered Balak’s message to him.

掃羅對僕人說：“如果我們去，有甚麼可以送給那人呢？因為我們袋裡的食物都已經用盡了，也沒有禮物可以送給那神人，我們還有甚麼呢？”僕人回答掃羅：“看哪！我手裡有三克銀子，可以送給那神人，請他告訴我們應該走的路。”

城中的首領為賄賂而審判，祭司為薪俸而教導，先知為銀子說默示，他們竟倚靠耶和華，說：“耶和華不是在我們中間嗎？災禍必不會臨到我們身上。”

他們離棄正路，走入歧途，跟從了比珥的兒子巴蘭的道路。這巴蘭貪愛不義的工價，

因為這樣的人不服事我們的主基督，只服事自己的肚腹，用花言巧語欺騙老實人的心。

巴蘭見耶和華喜歡賜福以色列，就不再像前兩次一樣去求觀兆的方法，卻面向曠野。

但那些想要發財的人，就落在試探中和陷阱裡；又落在許多無知而有害的私慾裡，使人沉淪在敗壞和滅亡中；因為貪財是萬惡之根。有人貪愛錢財，就被引誘離開真道，用許多痛苦把自己刺透了。

你們為了幾把大麥，為了幾塊餅，就在我的子民中間褻瀆我；你們向我那些願聽謊言的子民說謊，不該死的人，你們殺死了；不該活的人，你們卻保全他們的性命。

這些狗十分貪吃，不知飽足；他們是牧人，但甚麼都不明白；他們都偏行自己的道路，各從各方求自己的利益。

他們有禍了，因為他們走上了該隱的道路，又為了財利闖進巴蘭的歧途，並且在可拉的背叛中滅亡了。

他們為了可恥的利益，教訓一些不應該教導的事，敗壞人的全家，你務要堵住他們的嘴。

在雅各中沒有觀兆的，在以色列中也沒有占卜；到了適當的時候，必有話對雅各和以色列說：‘神為他們行了何等的大事！’
