Matthew 15:15-20
Then Peter said to Jesus,“ Explain to us the parable that says people aren’t defiled by what they eat.”“ Don’t you understand yet?” Jesus asked.“ Anything you eat passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer.But the words you speak come from the heart— that’s what defiles you.For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander.These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you.”

Then, leaving the crowds outside, Jesus went into the house. His disciples said,“ Please explain to us the story of the weeds in the field.”Jesus replied,“ The Son of Man is the farmer who plants the good seed.The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one.The enemy who planted the weeds among the wheat is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world, and the harvesters are the angels.“ Just as the weeds are sorted out and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the world.The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will remove from his Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.And the angels will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s Kingdom. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!

Then Jesus went into a house to get away from the crowd, and his disciples asked him what he meant by the parable he had just used.“ Don’t you understand either?” he asked.“ Can’t you see that the food you put into your body cannot defile you?Food doesn’t go into your heart, but only passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer.”( By saying this, he declared that every kind of food is acceptable in God’s eyes.)And then he added,“ It is what comes from inside that defiles you.For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder,adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
