這些事以後，亞利馬太的約瑟來求彼拉多，要把耶穌的身體領去。他是耶穌的門徒，只因怕猶太人，就暗地裏作門徒。彼拉多准許了，他就把耶穌的身體領走。尼哥德慕也來了，就是先前夜裏去見耶穌的那位，他帶着約一百斤的沒藥和沉香。他們照猶太人喪葬的規矩，用細麻布加上香料，把耶穌的身體裹好了。在耶穌釘十字架的地方有一個園子，園子裏有一座新墓穴，是從來沒有葬過人的。因為那天是猶太人的預備日，而那墳墓又在附近，他們就把耶穌安放在那裏。

有一個人名叫約瑟，是個議員，為人善良正直，卻沒有附從別人的所謀所為。他是猶太的亞利馬太城人，素常盼望着神的國。這人去見彼拉多，請求要耶穌的身體。他把耶穌的身體取下來，用細麻布裹好，安放在鑿巖而成的墳墓裏；那墳墓從來沒有葬過人。那日是預備日，安息日快到了。那些從加利利和耶穌同來的婦女跟在後面，看見了墳墓和他的身體怎樣安放。她們就回去，預備了香料香膏。在安息日，她們遵照誡命安息了。

到了晚上，有一個財主，名叫約瑟，是亞利馬太來的，他也是耶穌的門徒。這人去見彼拉多，請求要耶穌的身體，彼拉多就吩咐給他。約瑟取了身體，用乾淨的細麻布裹好，然後把他安放在自己的新墓穴裏，就是他鑿在巖石裏的。他又把大石頭滾到墓門口，然後離開。有抹大拉的馬利亞和另一個馬利亞在那裏，對着墳墓坐着。次日，就是預備日的第二天，祭司長和法利賽人聚集來見彼拉多，

因為這日是預備日，又因為那安息日是個大日子，猶太人就來求彼拉多叫人打斷他們的腿，把他們搬走，免得屍首在安息日留在十字架上。
