And behold, a man named Joseph, who was a councillor, a good and righteous man( he had not consented to their counsel and deed), a man of Arimathæa, a city of the Jews, who was looking for the kingdom of God:this man went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.And he took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was hewn in stone, where never man had yet lain.And it was the day of the Preparation, and the sabbath drew on.And the women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and beheld the tomb, and how his body was laid.And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments. And on the sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

And when even was come, there came a rich man from Arimathæa, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:this man went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded it to be given up.And Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed.And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.Now on the morrow, which is the day after the Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together unto Pilate,

The Jews therefore, because it was the Preparation, that the bodies should not remain on the cross upon the sabbath( for the day of that sabbath was a high day), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
