他們把耶穌從該亞法那裡帶到總督府，那時是清晨。他們為了不被汙穢，能吃逾越節的晚餐，就沒有進入總督府。於是彼拉多出來，到他們那裡，說：「你們提出什麼來控告這個人？」他們回答說：「這個人如果不是作惡的，我們就不會把他交給你了。」彼拉多對他們說：「你們自己把他帶走，按照你們的律法審判他吧。」那些猶太人回答說：「我們不可以處死人。」這是為要應驗耶穌說過的話，就是他指明自己將要怎樣死的那些話。彼拉多又進了總督府，把耶穌叫來，問他：「你是猶太人的王嗎？」耶穌回答：「這話是你自己說的，還是別人告訴過你關於我的事呢？」彼拉多說：「難道我是猶太人嗎？是你本國的人和祭司長們把你交給了我。你到底做了什麼？」耶穌回答：「我的國不屬於這個世界。如果我的國屬於這個世界，我的僕人們早就會爭戰，不讓我被交給那些猶太人。但如今，我的國不在這裡。」於是彼拉多問：「那麼，你就是王？」耶穌回答：「是你說的，我就是王。我為此而生，也為此而來到這世界，是要為真理做見證。凡是屬於真理的人，都聽我的聲音。」彼拉多說：「什麼是真理？」說了這話，他又出去對猶太人說：「我查不出他有什麼罪。

亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各的神，也就是我們祖先的神，已經榮耀了他的僕人耶穌。你們竟然把他交出去，並且在彼拉多判定要釋放他的時候，在彼拉多面前拒絕了他。
