彼得否認說：『我不知道，也不明白你說甚麼。』就出來，到了前院。

我思想我所行的路，就掉轉腳步來向你的法度。我迅速不躭延地遵守你的誡命。

這時彼得就極力咒詛自己並且起誓說：『我不認識那個人。』立刻地雞就叫了。彼得想起了耶穌所說的話：『雞叫以前，你就要三次否認我了』；便出去痛哭。

那時你們必想起你們的壞行徑、和不好的作為，就因你們的罪孽和可厭惡的事而討厭自己。

他們中間逃跑的必逃脫，必到山上，像平谷中的鴿子，沉吟哀鳴着，各為自己的罪罰而哀鳴。

大衛數點人民以後，大衛的良心一直在打擊他；大衛就對永恆主說：『因我所行的、我大大犯了罪了。永恆主啊，如今求你不追究你僕人的罪愆；因為我幹了極糊塗事了。』

他回悟過來，就說：「我父親有多少雇工，食物充足有餘，我倒在這裏因饑餓而喪命啊？我要起來，去見我父親，對他說：『父親，我犯罪違逆了天，也犯罪在你面前；再也不配稱為你的兒子了；把我當做你的一個雇工吧。』」

便出去痛哭。

耶穌對彼得說：『就在今天晚上，雞叫以前，你就要三次否認我了。』

我真地聽見以法蓮在為自己悲歎着說：「你督責了我，我便受督責，像訓練未馴的牛犢一樣；使我返回哦，我便得以返回，因為你是永恆主我的上帝。我被擄以後，就真地後悔；我受教責以後，就拍腿悔恨；我因擔當年幼時的恥辱，而抱愧蒙羞。」永恆主發神諭說：以法蓮是我的寶貝兒子麼？是個可喜悅的孩子麼？因為我每逢說了話譴責他，我總還是依依懷念着他。我的心腸熱戀着他；我一定要憐憫他。

彼得說：『人哪，我不曉得你在說甚麼。』立時地、他還說着話的時候、雞就叫了。

因為依順着上帝而有的憂愁能生出不後悔的懺悔來、以至於得救；而世俗的憂愁卻能生出死亡。

好使你在我赦宥你除淨你一切所行的之時，你心裏能夠追念而自覺慚愧，並因你受的羞辱而不再開口：這是主永恆主發神諭說的。』
