Many will come in my name, claiming,‘ I am he,’ and will deceive many.

For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones.

Then the Lord said,“ These prophets are telling lies in my name. I did not send them or tell them to speak. I did not give them any messages. They prophesy of visions and revelations they have never seen or heard. They speak foolishness made up in their own lying hearts.

That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.”

For I have come to you in my Father’s name, and you have rejected me. Yet if others come in their own name, you gladly welcome them.

And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people.

Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.

“ Then if anyone tells you,‘ Look, here is the Messiah,’ or‘ There he is,’ don’t believe it.For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones.

Some time ago there was that fellow Theudas, who pretended to be someone great. About 400 others joined him, but he was killed, and all his followers went their various ways. The whole movement came to nothing.After him, at the time of the census, there was Judas of Galilee. He got people to follow him, but he was killed, too, and all his followers were scattered.“ So my advice is, leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown.But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God!”

“ I have not sent these prophets, yet they run around claiming to speak for me. I have given them no message, yet they go on prophesying.If they had stood before me and listened to me, they would have spoken my words, and they would have turned my people from their evil ways and deeds.Am I a God who is only close at hand?” says the Lord.“ No, I am far away at the same time.Can anyone hide from me in a secret place? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?” says the Lord.“ I have heard these prophets say,‘ Listen to the dream I had from God last night.’ And then they proceed to tell lies in my name.
