我們要行事端正，好像在白晝中那樣：不可荒宴、醉酒；不可淫亂、好色；不可紛爭、嫉妒。相反，要穿上主耶穌基督；不要為了私慾而在屬肉體的事上做任何安排。

「可是他們都開始一致地推辭。第一個說：『我買了一塊地，必須去看看，請你容我推辭吧。』「另一個說：『我買了五對牛，正要去試試牠們，請你容我推辭吧。』「另有人說：『我剛娶了妻子，所以不能去。』

「你們要謹慎自守，免得你們的心因宴樂、醉酒和今生的憂慮變得遲鈍，那日子就會像網羅一樣突然臨到你們，

神的兒子們看到人的女兒們美麗，就從中任意挑選，為自己娶來為妻。

婭比蓋回到納巴爾那裡，看哪，他在家裡擺設宴席，像王的宴席一樣。納巴爾心情好，醉得很厲害，所以婭比蓋無論大事小事都沒有告訴他，直到早晨天亮。到了早晨，納巴爾酒醒後，他的妻子把這些事告訴他，他就失去了意識，身體變得硬如石頭。大約過了十天，耶和華擊打納巴爾，他就死了。

但如果這奴僕心裡說『我的主人會遲延回來』，就動手毆打其他的男僕和女僕，並且吃喝、醉酒，

復活的時候，人既不娶也不嫁，而是像天上的天使一樣。

然後，我要對我的靈魂說：靈魂哪，你擁有了很多好東西，足以享用多年，你就休息、吃喝、慶祝吧。』

到那日，主萬軍之耶和華呼籲你們哭泣哀號、剃光頭髮、束上麻布。看哪！你們卻歡喜快樂，殺牛宰羊，吃肉喝酒，說：「讓我們吃喝吧！因為明天我們就要死了。」萬軍之耶和華親自啟示我：「這罪孽，你們到死也絕不會贖清！」這是主萬軍之耶和華說的。

挪亞與他的兒子們、他的妻子和兒媳們一起進入方舟，躲避大洪水。

弟兄們，我要說這一點：時候不多了！從此有妻子的，要像沒有妻子的；哭泣的，要像沒有哭泣的；快樂的，要像沒有快樂的；買了東西的，要像沒有什麼的；利用世界的，要像沒有充分利用世界的；因為這世界的形態正在消逝。

於是他帶大衛下去。看哪，他們分散在那整片地上，吃喝慶祝，因他們從非利士人之地和猶大地擄掠了大量的各樣戰利品。大衛擊殺他們，從黃昏直到第二天傍晚；他們當中除了四百個騎駱駝的年輕人逃跑了以外，再沒有一個人逃脫。
