他們從山上下來的時候，耶穌叮囑他們、非等到人子從死人中復起以後、不要將所看見的向人敘說。他們就將這事守祕密，彼此討論從死人中復起是甚麼意思。又詰問耶穌說：『經學士為甚麼說以利亞必須先來呢？』耶穌對他們說：『「以利亞先來、復興萬事！」那麼那指着人子、說他該受許多苦、並被藐視、是怎麼記載的呢？其實我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，人竟任意而待他，正如經上指着他所記載的。』

耶穌就警告他們，囑咐他們不要將這事告訴人；又說：『人子必須受許多苦，從長老祭司長和經學士手下被棄掉，並且被殺，第三天就得甦活起來。』

我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，人卻不認得他，反倒任意待他；照樣，人子也將要在他們手下受苦了。』

她父母非常地驚奇；耶穌卻囑咐他們不要將所遇見的事告訴人。

耶穌對他說：『狐狸有洞，空中的飛鳥有窩，惟獨人子沒有枕頭的地方！』

又對他們說：『有這樣記着說；基督必須受害，第三天從死人中復起；而悔改以得罪赦之道、必須奉他的名傳給萬國，從耶路撒冷起；

耶穌對他說：『你要小心，不可告訴人，只要去，把你本身指給祭司看，又供獻摩西所規定的禮物，對眾人做證據。』

就警告門徒不要對人說他是上帝所膏立的。從那時耶穌便開始指示門徒：他必須往耶路撒冷去，從長老祭司長和經學士手下受許多苦，並且被殺，第三天就得甦活起來。

他們必鞭打他，殺害他；第三天他就必復起。』這些事、他們一樣也不曉悟；這話對於他們是隱藏的；所說的事、他們都不曉得。
