说了这些话以后约八天，耶稣带着彼得、约翰、雅各上山去祷告。正在祷告的时候，耶稣的相貌改变了，衣服也洁白发光。这时候，忽然有两个人和耶稣谈话——他们是摩西和以利亚——他们在荣光中显现，谈论耶稣离世的事，就是他将要在耶路撒冷成就的事。彼得和他的同伴正在沉睡着。可是他们清醒过来时，看见了耶稣的荣光和同他站着的那两个人。那两个人正要离开耶稣的时候，彼得对耶稣说：“老师，我们在这里真好！让我们来搭三座帐幕，一座为你，一座为摩西，一座为以利亚。”他不知道自己在说什么。他正说这些话，有一朵云彩出现，笼罩着他们。他们一没入云彩中，门徒们就惧怕起来。有声音从云中传来，说：“这是我的儿子，我所拣选的。你们当听从他！”声音过后，门徒们发现只有耶稣一个人了。在那些日子里，他们保持沉默，没有告诉任何人他们所看到的事。

然后他除了彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟约翰以外，不准别的人跟着。

他带了彼得和西庇太的两个儿子一起去，开始感到忧虑，极其难过，

这从天上传来的声音，是我们与他一起在圣山上的时候听见的，

这是我第三次到你们那里去。“任何事，凭两个或三个见证人的口，才能成立。”

过了六天，耶稣只带着彼得、雅各、约翰，领他们悄悄地上了一座高山。在他们面前，耶稣变了形像。他的衣服变得光亮耀眼，极其洁白，地上漂布的人无法漂得那样白。这时候，以利亚与摩西一起向他们显现，并且和耶稣谈话。彼得对耶稣说：“拉比，我们在这里真好！让我们来搭三座帐幕，一座为你，一座为摩西，一座为以利亚。”其实彼得不知道说什么才好，因为他们都非常害怕。这时候，有一朵云彩出现笼罩他们，并且有声音从云中传来：“这是我的爱子，你们当听从他！”于是门徒们环视周围，忽然间，再也看不到别的人，只有耶稣与他们在一起。他们下山的时候，耶稣吩咐他们，在人子从死人中复活之前，不要把所看到的告诉任何人。他们牢记这话，互相谈论“从死人中复活”是什么意思。他们问耶稣，说：“经文士们为什么说以利亚必须先来呢？”耶稣告诉他们：“以利亚确实要先来恢复万事。至于人子，经上怎么还记载说，他必然受很多苦害，并且被人拒绝呢？不过我告诉你们：其实以利亚已经来了，人们却任意对待他，正如经上指着他所写的。”

耶稣来到他的家，除了彼得、约翰、雅各和孩子的父母以外，不准任何人与他一起进去。
