有人慷慨好施，反增添更多；有人該給不給，卻導致缺乏。慷慨祝福的，必得豐裕；使人得潤澤的，自己也蒙恩澤。

但耶穌說：「他們不需要離開，你們給他們吃的吧。」門徒們對耶穌說：「我們這裡除了五個餅和兩條魚，就沒有什麼了。」

但耶穌回答他們，說：「你們給他們吃的吧。」門徒們說：「要我們去買兩百個銀幣的餅給他們吃嗎？」耶穌問他們：「你們有多少餅呢？去看看。」他們察看後，就說：「有五個，還有兩條魚。」

耶穌舉目觀看，見一大群人向他走來，就對腓力說：「我們從哪裡買餅給這些人吃呢？」他說這話是要試試腓力，其實他自己已經知道要做什麼了。腓力回答：「就是兩百個銀幣的餅，也不夠每個人吃一小塊！」他的一個門徒，就是西門彼得的弟弟安得烈，對耶穌說：「這裡有個孩子，帶了五個大麥餅和兩條魚。可是對這麼多人，這些算什麼呢？」
