『哀哉哥拉潯！哀哉伯撒達！假令爾中所行神蹟、行之於諦羅西同、早已披麻蒙灰、而憣然悔改矣。

未既、七十二人欣然而返、報曰：『緣主之名、鬼魔亦受制於吾儕矣！』

『異哉斯人之言、何其僭妄之甚也！捨天主外、誰能赦罪者？』

宗徒既集、以奉命傳道及所行事報耶穌、耶穌曰：『盍相偕密赴曠野稍憩。』以往來人眾、不遑暇食。乃登舟潛行、眾見其行、有識之者、自各城步行、先往俟之。耶穌出見芸芸眾生、如無牧之羊群、惻然憫之、乃多方教導。日暮、門徒進曰：『荒郊時晏、請遣眾散、自往四鄉市食。』耶穌曰：『爾當食之。』門徒曰：『豈欲吾人購餅二十金以食之乎？』耶穌曰：『先視存餅。』既悉、報曰：『餅五枚、魚二尾而已。』耶穌諭徒令眾成列、席草而坐、眾如命、有百人為一列者、有五十人者、坐定、耶穌持餅與魚、仰天祝福、分餅授徒置眾前、魚亦然：眾食且飽、拾餅屑殘魚盈十二筐；食者數約五千。耶穌促門徒先登舟赴伯賽大、自遣眾散。

斐理伯者、百賽達人、安得烈伯鐸祿之同鄉也。

爾等之導師、責任綦重、朝乾夕惕、守望爾等靈心、俾來日有以復命；爾等自應順從其教訓、拳拳服膺、庶幾彼等於勞苦之中、獲得欣慰；切莫重貽其憂、於爾等亦不利也。

耶穌舉目、見眾就之、顧謂斐理伯曰：『何由市餅、以食斯眾？』彼作此言、蓋試之耳、胸中固有成竹也。斐理伯曰：『即有銀錢二百以市餅、亦不足使人人咸得少飽。』徒中有安德烈者即西門伯鐸祿之兄、謂耶穌曰：『有童子攜有麰餅五枚、小魚二尾。以供斯眾、何濟於事？』耶穌曰：『令眾坐。』其地有草如茵、眾即席地而坐、數約五千。耶穌取餅祝謝、分與坐眾、各隨所欲、魚亦如之。眾既充飫、耶穌諭徒曰：『收拾餘屑、莫令狼藉。』收之則五餅之屑、充十二筐。
