But I took your father Abraham from the land beyond the Euphrates and led him throughout Canaan and gave him many descendants. I gave him Isaac,

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要离开家乡、亲族和父亲的家，到我要指示你的地方去。我必使你成为大国，我必赐福给你，使你声名远播。你必成为别人的祝福。我必赐福给那些祝福你的人，咒诅那些咒诅你的人。世上万族必因你而蒙福。”亚伯兰就照耶和华的吩咐离开哈兰，侄儿罗得与他同行。那时亚伯兰七十五岁。

司提凡说：“各位父老兄弟，请听我说！我们的祖先亚伯拉罕还未迁到哈兰之前，住在美索不达米亚，荣耀的上帝向他显现，说，‘你要离开家乡和亲族，到我要指示你的地方去。’

亚伯拉罕年老的时候，撒拉怀了孕，在上帝指定的日期为他生了一个儿子。亚伯拉罕为儿子取名叫以撒。

儿女是耶和华所赐的礼物，孩子是祂所给的赏赐。

你是耶和华上帝，你拣选了亚伯兰，带他离开迦勒底的吾珥，又给他改名为亚伯拉罕。你知道他对你忠心，就与他立约，把迦南人、赫人、亚摩利人、比利洗人、耶布斯人及革迦撒人的土地赐给他的后代。你实现了你的应许，因为你是公义的。

耶和华把亚伯兰带到外面，对他说：“你抬头看看天空，数数繁星，你能数得尽吗？你的后裔必这么多。”
