后来利百加的奶妈底波拉死了，葬在伯特利山谷下面的橡树下，那棵树叫亚伦·巴古。

雅各清早起来，把枕的那块石头立成柱子作记号，在上面浇上油。他称那地方为伯特利，那地方以前叫路斯。雅各许愿说：“如果上帝与我同在，在路上保护我，供给我衣食，带领我平安地回到父亲的家，我就一定敬奉耶和华为我的上帝。我立为柱子的这块石头必成为上帝的殿。凡你赐给我的，我必把十分之一献给你。”

摩西把这律法都写在书上以后，就吩咐抬耶和华约柜的利未人：“把这律法书放在你们的上帝耶和华的约柜旁，作为指控你们的证据。

吩咐他们从约旦河床祭司站立的地方取十二块石头，放在你们今天晚上住宿的地方。”约书亚便召来他从以色列人中选的十二个人，对他们说：“你们到约旦河床你们的上帝耶和华的约柜前面，每人扛一块石头回来，每个支派一块，一共十二块。这些石头要在你们中间作记号。以后，倘若你们的子孙问你们，‘这些石头是什么意思？’你们就告诉他们，‘约旦河水在耶和华的约柜前曾经被截断，当约柜过河的时候，河水被截断了。这些石头要在以色列人当中作为永久的纪念。’”以色列人就照约书亚的吩咐，也就是照耶和华对约书亚的吩咐，按以色列人支派的数目，从约旦河中取了十二块石头，搬来放在住宿的地方。约书亚又在约旦河床抬约柜的祭司站立的地方立了十二块石头。石头至今还在那里。
