他们又对他说：“我们该对你怎么做，才能使海为我们平静下来呢？”因为海浪越来越汹涌了。

他們問他說：「我們當向你怎樣行，使海浪平靜呢？」這話是因海浪越發翻騰。

他們又問他：「我們該對你怎麼做，才能使海為我們平靜下來呢？」因為海浪越來越洶湧了。

又謂之曰、我當何以待爾、使海為我而恬靜乎、因海久而愈盪、

又曰、今海震盪愈甚、當若何待爾、則風浪可息。

又曰、今海之波濤洶湧已甚、當若何待爾、使海恬靜乎、

The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him,“ What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?”

Then they said to him,“ What shall we do to you, that the sea may quiet down for us?” For the sea grew more and more tempestuous.

And since the storm was getting worse all the time, they asked him,“ What should we do to you to stop this storm?”

So they said to him,“ What should we do to you so that the sea will calm down for us?” For the sea was getting worse and worse.

So they said to him,“ What should we do to you so that the sea will become calm for us?”— for the sea was becoming increasingly stormy.

Then they said to him,“ What shall we do to you that the sea may be calm for us?”— for the sea was growing more tempestuous.

Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea grew more and more tempestuous.

So they said to him,“ What should we do to you to calm this sea that’s against us?” For the sea was getting worse and worse.

Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.

Because the storm was growing worse and worse, they said to him,“ What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?”

Then they said to him,“ What shall we do to you, that the sea may be calm to us?” For the sea grew more and more stormy.

大衛在位的日子，有連續三年的饑荒；大衛就尋求耶和華的面。耶和華說：“這是因為掃羅和掃羅家流人血的罪，因為他曾經殺死了基遍人。”原來基遍人不是以色列人，而是亞摩利人中餘剩的後人。以色列人曾經起誓與他們立約，但掃羅卻為以色列人和猶大人發熱心，設法要擊殺他們。王把基遍人召了來，對他們說話。大衛問基遍人：“我能為你們作甚麼？我該用甚麼來贖罪，使你們為耶和華的產業祝福呢？”基遍人回答大衛：“我們與掃羅和他家的事，都與金子銀子沒有關係；我們也不願以色列中有一個人被殺。”大衛問：“那麼，你們說，我當為你們作甚麼？”他們回答王：“從前破壞我們，謀害我們，要消滅我們，使我們不能在以色列境內立足的那人，現在請你把他子孫中的七個男丁交給我們，我們可以在基遍耶和華的山上，在耶和華面前把他們處決。”王說：“我必交給你們。”

大衛早晨起來；耶和華的話臨到迦得先知，就是大衛的先見，說：“你去告訴大衛說：‘耶和華這樣說：我給你三個選擇，你要選擇一個，我好向你施行。’”於是迦得來見大衛，問他說：“你要國中三年（按照《馬索拉文本》，“三年”作“七年”；現參照《七十士譯本》翻譯；參代上21:12）的饑荒呢？或是要在你敵人面前逃跑，被追趕三個月呢？或是要國中有三天的瘟疫呢？現在你要想想，決定我該用甚麼話回覆那差我來的。”

我朝見耶和華，在至高的神面前叩拜，當獻上甚麼呢？我朝見他的時候，當獻上燔祭，當獻上一歲的牛犢嗎？耶和華喜悅千千的公羊，或是萬萬的油河嗎？為我的過犯，我可以獻上我的長子嗎？為我的罪惡，獻上我親生的孩子嗎？

非利士人把眾祭司和占卜的都召了來，問他們：“我們應該怎樣處理耶和華的約櫃呢？請告訴我們，要怎樣才能把它送回原處呢？”他們回答：“你們把以色列神的約櫃送回去的時候，不可空空地把它送回去，卻要償還賠罪的禮物，這樣，你們就可以得著醫治，也可以知道，為甚麼他的手沒有離開你們。”
