眾人就大大懼怕，對他說：“你為甚麼這樣作呢？（“你為甚麼這樣作呢？”或譯：“你作的是甚麼呢？”）”那些人知道他躲避耶和華，原來約拿告訴了他們。

今欲去耶和華駐蹕之所、逃避於外。眾聞言則懼、曰、何可去也。

約拿亦明告之以己逃避主、眾知此則懼甚、謂之曰、爾何為行此、

This terrified them and they asked,“ What have you done?”( They knew he was running away from the Lord, because he had already told them so.)

They found out he was running away from the Lord. That’s because he had told them. Then they became terrified. So they asked him,“ How could you do a thing like that?”

Then the men were exceedingly afraid and said to him,“ What is this that you have done!” For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.

The sailors were terrified when they heard this, for he had already told them he was running away from the Lord.“ Oh, why did you do it?” they groaned.

Then the men were seized by a great fear and said to him,“ What have you done?” The men knew he was fleeing from the LORD’s presence because he had told them.

Then the men became extremely afraid, and they said to him,“ How could you do this?” For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.

Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him,“ Why have you done this?” For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.

Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, What is this that thou hast done? For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of Jehovah, because he had told them.

Then the men were even more afraid and said to him,“ What is this you’ve done?” The men knew he was fleeing from the Lord’s presence, because he had told them.

Hearing this, the men became even more afraid and said to him,“ What have you done?”( The men said this because they knew that he was trying to escape from the LORD, because he had previously told them.)

Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him,“ What have you done?” For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of Yahweh, because he had told them.

可是約拿卻起來，要逃往他施去，躲避耶和華；他下到約帕，找到了一隻要開往他施去的船；他給了錢，就上船（“上船”原文作“下船”），要和他們同往他施去，離開耶和華。

神射擊他，毫不留情，他甚願快快逃脫神的手。

約書亞說：“你為甚麼給我們招惹災禍呢？今天耶和華必使你遭受災禍。”於是全體以色列人用石頭把他打死。他們用石頭打死他們以後，就把一切用火燒了。

約押回答王：“無論人民有多少，願耶和華你的神再增加一百倍，又願我主我王親眼看見。不過，我主我王為甚麼喜歡這事呢？”

就臉色大變，心意驚惶，兩腳無力，雙膝彼此相碰。王大聲呼叫，吩咐人把那些用法術的和迦勒底人，以及占星家都領進來；王對巴比倫的智慧人說：“誰能讀這文字，又能向我解釋它的意思，他必身穿紫袍，頸戴金鍊，在國中掌權，位列第三。”於是王所有的智慧人都進來，卻不能讀那文字，也不能把意思向王說明。伯沙撒王就非常驚惶，臉色大變；他的大臣也都不知所措。
