並教導你們的兒女，無論在家在外，或起或臥，都要講論這些律例和誡命。

是我們所聞所知、世代流傳下來的事。我們不要在子孫面前隱瞞事實，要把耶和華當受稱頌的作為、祂的權能和所行的奇事告訴下一代。因為祂為雅各制定法度，為以色列設立律法，又吩咐我們的祖先把這些律法傳給兒女，好讓他們也照樣教導自己的子孫後代，世代相傳。這樣，他們就會信靠上帝，遵行祂的命令，不忘記祂的作為；也不會像自己的祖先那樣頑梗叛逆，對上帝不忠，心懷二意。

將來你們的子孫問起這件事的意義，你們就回答，『耶和華曾經用大能的手把我們從受奴役之地——埃及領出來。

這些石頭要在你們中間作記號。以後，倘若你們的子孫問你們，『這些石頭是什麼意思？』你們就告訴他們，『約旦河水在耶和華的約櫃前曾經被截斷，當約櫃過河的時候，河水被截斷了。這些石頭要在以色列人當中作為永久的紀念。』」

上帝啊，我們親耳聽過祖先講述你在古時，在我們祖先時代的作為。

並對以色列人說：「以後，你們的子孫問你們這堆石頭是什麼意思，你們就告訴他們，『這是代表以色列人曾在乾地上走過約旦河。』

耶和華對摩西說：「你去見法老，我已使他和他臣僕的心剛硬，好在他們當中行我這些神蹟。這樣，你就可以把我如何嚴懲埃及人以及我在他們當中所行的神蹟告訴你的子孫，好叫你們知道我是耶和華。」

願世世代代頌讚你的事蹟，傳揚你大能的作為。

只有活著的人才能像我今天這樣讚美你，並且把你的信實告訴下一代。

上帝啊，就是我年老髮白的時候，求你也不要丟棄我，好讓我把你的大能告訴下一代，世代相傳。
