“ People cry out when they are treated badly. They beg to be set free from the power of those who are over them.

“人因多受欺压就哀求，因受能者的辖制便求救，

“人因多受欺压就哀求，因强权者的膀臂而求救。

“人因多受欺压就哀求，因强权者的膀臂而求救。

“人们因饱受压迫而呼求，因强权者的压制而求救。

他们因多受欺压而呼叫，因受强权者的压制而呼求。

人因多受欺壓就哀求，因受能者的轄制便求救，

「人因多受欺壓就哀求，因強權者的膀臂而求救。

「人們因飽受壓迫而呼求，因強權者的壓制而求救。

他們因多受欺壓而呼叫，因受強權者的壓制而呼求。

『人因多受欺壓就哀呼：因受強者膀臂的轄制便呼救：

人因多虐而呼號、緣強者之臂而呼救、

人受困苦則嘆息、遭橫逆則呼號。

有人因多遭虐待而歎息、緣被有勢者欺壓而呼號、

“ People cry out under a load of oppression; they plead for relief from the arm of the powerful.

“ Because of the multitude of oppressions people cry out; they call for help because of the arm of the mighty.

“ People cry out when they are oppressed. They groan beneath the power of the mighty.

People cry out because of severe oppression; they shout for help because of the power of the mighty.

“ Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; They cry for help because of the arm of the mighty.

“ Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; They cry out for help because of the arm of the mighty.

By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

People cry out because of severe oppression; they shout for help because of the arm of the mighty.

By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make[ the oppressed] to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

“ People cry out because of the excess of oppression; they cry out for help because of the power of the mighty.

“ By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out. They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The people of Israel groaned because they were slaves. They also cried out to God. Their cry for help went up to him.

They caused poor people to cry out to him. He heard the cries of those who were in need.

Is your arm as powerful as mine is? Can your voice thunder as mine does?

Take away the power of sinful people. Hold them accountable for the evil things they do. Uncover all the evil they have done.

The Lord says,“ The poor are being robbed. Those who are in need groan. So I will stand up to help them. I will keep them safe from those who tell lies about them.”

You are God, my place of safety. Why have you turned your back on me? Why must I go around in sorrow? Why am I beaten down by my enemies?

Help me, God. Men are chasing me. All day long they keep attacking me.My enemies chase me all day long. Many proud people are attacking me.

Some men and their wives cried out against their Jewish brothers and sisters.Some of them were saying,“ There are now many of us. We have many sons and daughters. We have to get some grain so we can eat and stay alive.”Others were saying,“ We’re being forced to sell our fields, vineyards and homes. We have to do it to buy grain. There isn’t enough food for everyone.”Still others were saying,“ We’ve had to borrow money. We needed it to pay the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards.We belong to the same family lines as the rest of our people. Our children are as good as theirs. But we’ve had to sell them off as slaves. Some of our daughters have already been made slaves. But we can’t do anything about it. That’s because our fields and vineyards now belong to others.”

A widow lived in that town. She came to the judge again and again. She kept begging him,‘ Make things right for me. Someone is treating me badly.’“ For some time the judge refused. But finally he said to himself,‘ I don’t have any respect for God. I don’t care about what people think.But this widow keeps bothering me. So I will see that things are made right for her. If I don’t, she will someday come and attack me!’ ”The Lord said,“ Listen to what the unfair judge says.God’s chosen people cry out to him day and night. Won’t he make things right for them? Will he keep putting them off?

The groans of those who are dying are heard from the city. Those who are wounded cry out for help. But God doesn’t charge anyone with doing what is wrong.

He removes the authority of priests and leads them away. He removes from their positions officials who have been in control for a long time.

Hear me and answer me. My thoughts upset me. I’m very troubled.I’m troubled by what my enemies say about me. I’m upset because they say they will harm me. They cause me all kinds of suffering. When they are angry, they attack me with their words.

And now Israel’s cry for help has reached me. I have seen how badly the Egyptians are treating them.

The Lord said,“ I have seen how my people are suffering in Egypt. I have heard them cry out because of their slave drivers. I am concerned about their suffering.
