他們回答說：「這個人如果不是作惡的，我們就不會把他交給你了。」

對曰、彼若非行惡者、我儕則不付於爾矣、

對曰、無罪、則不解與爾、

答曰、彼若非犯罪、則不解於爾、

眾應曰：『苟非惡類、必不解之爾前。』

“ If he were not a criminal,” they replied,“ we would not have handed him over to you.”

“ He has committed crimes,” they replied.“ If he hadn’t, we would not have handed him over to you.”

They answered him,“ If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.”

“ We wouldn’t have handed him over to you if he weren’t a criminal!” they retorted.

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed him over to you.”

They answered and said to him,“ If this Man were not a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you.”

They answered and said to him,“ If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him up to you.”

They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evil- doer, we should not have delivered him up unto thee.

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed Him over to you.”

They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

They replied,“ If this man were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.”

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”

說：「看，我們現在上耶路撒冷去，人子將被出賣給祭司長們和經文士們。他們要定他死罪，並且要把他交給外邦人。

說『人子必須被交在罪人手中，被釘十字架，然後在第三天復活。』」

由此，彼拉多就想要釋放耶穌。可是猶太人喊叫說：「你如果釋放這個人，就不是凱撒的朋友了。所有把自己當做王的，就是反對凱撒的！」

經文士和祭司長們知道這個比喻是針對他們而說的，當時就想下手捉拿耶穌，可是又怕民眾。於是，他們密切注意，派了一些奸細裝做好人，要抓耶穌的話柄，好把他交在總督的管理和權柄之下。那些奸細問耶穌，說：「老師，我們知道你所說所教導的都是對的，你也不顧人的情面，而是按真理教導神的道。請問：我們向凱撒納稅，可以不可以呢？」耶穌看出他們的詭詐，就對他們說：「拿一個銀幣給我看。這上面是誰的像和名號？」他們說：「是凱撒的。」耶穌對他們說：「因此，凱撒的歸給凱撒；神的歸給神。」他們在民眾面前抓不到耶穌的話柄，又對他的答覆感到驚奇，就啞口無言了。

祭司長們控告了耶穌很多事。

亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各的神，也就是我們祖先的神，已經榮耀了他的僕人耶穌。你們竟然把他交出去，並且在彼拉多判定要釋放他的時候，在彼拉多面前拒絕了他。

開始控告耶穌，說：「我們發現這個人在敗壞我們的同胞，阻止納稅給凱撒，還自稱是基督、是王。」彼拉多問耶穌：「你是猶太人的王嗎？」耶穌回答說：「是你說的。」彼拉多對祭司長們和眾人說：「我查不出這個人有什麼罪。」他們卻更加堅持說：「他在猶太全地教導、煽動民眾，從加利利開始，一直到這裡。」
