彼拉多說：「他到底做了什麼惡事呢？」但他們卻越發喊叫說：「把他釘上十字架！」

彼拉多問他：「你是猶太人的王嗎？」耶穌回答他，說：「是你說的。」祭司長們控告了耶穌很多事。所以彼拉多又問他，說：「你什麼都不回應嗎？你看，他們控告你這麼多的事。」可是，耶穌仍然什麼也不回答，以致彼拉多感到驚奇。

開始控告耶穌，說：「我們發現這個人在敗壞我們的同胞，阻止納稅給凱撒，還自稱是基督、是王。」彼拉多問耶穌：「你是猶太人的王嗎？」耶穌回答說：「是你說的。」

我想了解猶太人控告他的理由，就帶他到他們的議會去。我發現他被控告，與他們律法上的爭議問題有關，並沒有任何該死或該被捆鎖的罪行。後來我被告知將有一個針對這個人的陰謀，就立即把他解送到您那裡去，又吩咐原告們到您面前去告他。」

耶穌站在總督面前，總督問他，說：「你是猶太人的王嗎？」耶穌說：「是你說的。」可是當他被祭司長們和長老們控告的時候，什麼都不回應。彼拉多對他說：「他們控告你這麼多的事，你沒有聽見嗎？」耶穌連一句話也不回答，以致總督感到非常驚奇。

我回答他們：在被告還沒有與原告當面對質，並且對被控罪名還沒有獲得申辯機會以前，就把被告交出去，這不符合羅馬人的規矩。
