“ Babylon must fall because of Israel’s slain, just as the slain in all the earth have fallen because of Babylon.

“ Babylon’s people have killed my people Israel. They have also killed people all over the earth. So now Babylon itself must fall.

Babylon must fall for the slain of Israel, just as for Babylon have fallen the slain of all the earth.

“ Just as Babylon killed the people of Israel and others throughout the world, so must her people be killed.

“但我必在你們眼前報復巴比倫和迦勒底所有的居民在錫安所作的一切惡事。”這是耶和華的宣告。

“搶奪我產業的啊！你們雖然歡喜快樂，像踹穀的母牛犢跳躍，像雄壯的馬嘶叫；

錫安的居民要說：“願巴比倫以強暴待我們（“我們”或譯：“我和我骨肉之親”）的罪歸到巴比倫身上。”耶路撒冷要說：“願流我血的罪歸到迦勒底的居民身上。”

將要被毀滅的（“將要被毀滅的”有古譯本作“毀滅者”）巴比倫城（“城”原文作“女子”）啊！照著你待我們的行為報復你的，那人有福了。抓住你的嬰孩摔在磐石上的，那人有福了。

你們怎樣判斷人，也必怎樣被判斷；你們用甚麼標準衡量人，也必照樣被衡量。

比色王說：“從前有七十個王，手腳的大拇指都被我砍去，在我的桌子底下拾取食物；現在神照著我所行的，報應我了。”於是他們把他帶到耶路撒冷，後來他就死在那裡。

萬軍之耶和華這樣說：“以色列人被壓迫，猶大人也一樣受到欺壓；所有俘擄他們的都緊緊抓住他們，不肯釋放他們。但他們的救贖主大有能力，萬軍之耶和華是他的名；他必認真地為他們的案件申辯，好使那地得到安寧，卻使巴比倫的居民惶亂不安。

因為她的罪惡滔天，神已經想起她的不義來。她怎樣待人，你們也要怎樣待她；照著她所作的，加倍報應她；用她調酒的杯，加倍調給她。

耶和華已為我們伸冤；來吧！我們要在錫安宣揚耶和華我們神的作為。你們要磨尖箭頭，拿起盾牌（“拿起盾牌”《七十士譯本》譯作“裝滿箭袋”）；耶和華定意要毀滅巴比倫，所以激動瑪代諸王的心；這是耶和華的報復，就是為他的殿而施行的報復。

以色列是被趕散的羊，它被獅子趕逐。先是亞述王把它吞滅，現在巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒要咬碎它的骨頭。因此，萬軍之耶和華神這樣說：“看哪！我必懲罰巴比倫王和他的國土，像我以前懲罰亞述王一樣，

因為對不行憐憫的人，審判他們的時候就沒有憐憫；憐憫勝過審判。
