蓋耶利米曾曰、耶和華云、我將付此城於巴比倫王、使彼取之、猶大王西底家不能脫於迦勒底人手、必解至巴比倫王前、詰問研究、曳至巴比倫、居彼、待我耶和華眷顧之、爾曹雖戰巴比倫軍、必不獲利。西底家王聞之、怒其言不利、故下之於獄。

For King Zedekiah had confined Jeremiah there after he had reproved him for prophesying as he did. He had asked Jeremiah,“ Why do you keep prophesying these things? Why do you keep saying that the LORD says,‘ I will hand this city over to the king of Babylon? I will let him capture it.

For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying,“ Why do you prophesy, and say,‘ Yahweh says,“ Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will take it;

“耶和华以色列的神说，你去告诉犹大王西底家，耶和华如此说：‘我要将这城交付巴比伦王的手，他必用火焚烧。你必不能逃脱他的手，定被拿住，交在他的手中。你的眼要见巴比伦王的眼，他要口对口和你说话，你也必到巴比伦去。’

‘耶和华以色列的神如此说：我要使你们手中的兵器，就是你们在城外与巴比伦王和围困你们的迦勒底人打仗的兵器翻转过来，又要使这些都聚集在这城中。并且我要在怒气、忿怒，和大恼恨中，用伸出来的手，并大能的膀臂，亲自攻击你们；又要击打这城的居民，连人带牲畜都必遭遇大瘟疫死亡。以后我要将犹大王西底家和他的臣仆百姓，就是在城内，从瘟疫、刀剑、饥荒中剩下的人，都交在巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒的手中和他们仇敌，并寻索其命的人手中。巴比伦王必用刀击杀他们，不顾惜，不可怜，不怜悯。这是耶和华说的。’

耶利米说完了耶和华所吩咐他对众人说的一切话，祭司、先知与众民都来抓住他，说：“你必要死！你为何托耶和华的名预言，说这殿必如示罗，这城必变为荒场无人居住呢？”于是众民都在耶和华的殿中聚集到耶利米那里。

耶和华如此说：我必将这城交付迦勒底人的手和巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒的手，他必攻取这城。攻城的迦勒底人必来放火焚烧这城和其中的房屋。在这房屋上，人曾向巴力烧香，向别神浇奠，惹我发怒。

这亚哈斯王在急难的时候，越发得罪耶和华。

“无论哪一邦哪一国，不肯服侍这巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒，也不把颈项放在巴比伦王的轭下，我必用刀剑、饥荒、瘟疫刑罚那邦，直到我藉巴比伦王的手将他们毁灭。这是耶和华说的。

埃及王对他们说：“摩西、亚伦！你们为什么叫百姓旷工呢？你们去担你们的担子吧！”

我责打你们的儿女是徒然的，他们不受惩治。你们自己的刀吞灭你们的先知，好像残害的狮子。

耶和华的话临到先知耶利米说：“耶和华以色列的神如此说：犹大王打发你们来求问我，你们要如此对他说：‘那出来帮助你们法老的军队必回埃及本国去。迦勒底人必再来攻打这城，并要攻取，用火焚烧。耶和华如此说：你们不要自欺说“迦勒底人必定离开我们”，因为他们必不离开。你们即便杀败了与你们争战的迦勒底全军，但剩下受伤的人也必各人从帐棚里起来，用火焚烧这城。’”

问他说：“你告诉我们，你仗着什么权柄做这些事？给你这权柄的是谁呢？”

他们又耸动了百姓、长老，并文士，就忽然来捉拿他，把他带到公会去，设下假见证，说：“这个人说话，不住地糟践圣所和律法。我们曾听见他说，这拿撒勒人耶稣要毁坏此地，也要改变摩西所交给我们的规条。”

王说：“我今日若容沙法的儿子以利沙的头仍在他项上，愿神重重地降罚与我！”那时，以利沙正坐在家中，长老也与他同坐。王打发一个伺候他的人去；他还没有到，以利沙对长老说：“你们看这凶手之子，打发人来斩我的头；你们看着使者来到，就关上门，用门将他推出去。在他后头不是有他主人脚步的响声吗？”

耶和华啊，你的眼目不是看顾诚实吗？你击打他们，他们却不伤恸；你毁灭他们，他们仍不受惩治。他们使脸刚硬过于磐石，不肯回头。

以伯米勒就从王宫里出来，对王说：

于是首领对王说：“求你将这人治死；因他向城里剩下的兵丁和众民说这样的话，使他们的手发软。这人不是求这百姓得平安，乃是叫他们受灾祸。”

却不要在伯特利再说预言；因为这里有王的圣所，有王的宫殿。”
