I thought that after she had done all this she would return to me but she did not, and her unfaithful sister Judah saw it.

“ Come, let us return to the Lord; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up.After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him.Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.”What shall I do with you, O Ephraim? What shall I do with you, O Judah? Your love is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes early away.

Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled because of your iniquity.

She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce. Yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the whore.Because she took her whoredom lightly, she polluted the land, committing adultery with stone and tree.Yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah did not return to me with her whole heart, but in pretense, declares the Lord.”And the Lord said to me,“ Faithless Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.

“ Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother.They played the whore in Egypt; they played the whore in their youth; there their breasts were pressed and their virgin bosoms handled.Oholah was the name of the elder and Oholibah the name of her sister. They became mine, and they bore sons and daughters. As for their names, Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem.
