One who argues with his creator is in grave danger, one who is like a mere shard among the other shards on the ground! The clay should not say to the potter,“ What in the world are you doing? Your work lacks skill!”

祸哉，那与造他的主争论的！他不过是地上瓦片中的一块瓦片。泥土岂可对抟弄他的说：“你做什么呢？”所做的物岂可说：“你没有手呢？”

“那与造他的主争论的人有祸了！他不过是地上瓦块中的一片。泥土岂可对塑造它的说：‘你做的是什么？你所做的物怎么没有把手呢？’

“那与造他的主争论的人有祸了！他不过是地上瓦块中的一片。泥土岂可对塑造它的说：‘你做的是什么？你所做的物怎么没有把手呢？’

“跟造物主争辩的人有祸了！他不过是世上瓦器中的一件。陶泥怎能对陶匠说，‘你在做什么’？受造之物怎能说，‘造我的没手艺’？

祸哉！那与他的塑造者争论的！他不过是地上瓦片中的片瓦。难道陶泥能对陶匠说：“你做的是什么东西？你做的怎么没有把手呢？”

禍哉，那與造他的主爭論的！他不過是地上瓦片中的一塊瓦片。泥土豈可對摶弄它的說：你做甚麼呢？所做的物豈可說：你沒有手呢？

「那與造他的主爭論的人有禍了！他不過是地上瓦塊中的一片。泥土豈可對塑造它的說：『你做的是甚麼？你所做的物怎麼沒有把手呢？』

『有禍啊，那跟塑造他、的主爭論的！瓦器跟摶土者計較的！泥土哪能對塑造它的說：「你在作甚麼？」或是說：「你所作的沒有把手呀」？

禍哉！那與他的塑造者爭論的！他不過是地上瓦片中的片瓦。難道陶泥能對陶匠說：「你做的是什麼東西？你做的怎麼沒有把手呢？」

土壤瓦礫中之片瓦、與造之者爭辯、其有禍矣、塗泥豈能謂陶人曰、爾何為乎、所造之物豈得曰、彼無手乎、

人若陶器、居於土壤、如與造化主爭、禍必及之。譬諸塗泥、豈能謂陶人曰、奚造我若此、受造之物、豈能謂造之者、毫無技能。

世人如地上瓦礫中之瓦片、欲與造之之主爭、禍必及之、泥豈能謂陶人曰、爾何為乎、被製之物豈能對製者曰、非經爾手、非經爾手或作爾無手也

“ Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter,‘ What are you making?’ Does your work say,‘ The potter has no hands’?

How terrible it will be for anyone who argues with their Maker! They are like a broken piece of pottery lying on the ground. Does clay say to a potter,“ What are you making?” Does a pot say,“ The potter doesn’t have any skill”?

“ Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it,‘ What are you making?’ or‘ Your work has no handles’?

“ What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying,‘ Stop, you’re doing it wrong!’ Does the pot exclaim,‘ How clumsy can you be?’

“ Woe to the one who argues with his Maker— one clay pot among many. Does clay say to the one forming it,‘ What are you making?’ Or does your work say,‘ He has no hands’?

“ Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker— A piece of pottery among the other earthenware pottery pieces! Will the clay say to the potter,‘ What are you doing?’ Or the thing you are making say,‘ He has no hands’?

“ Woe to him who strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him who forms it,‘ What are you making?’ Or shall your handiwork say,‘ He has no hands’?

Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! a potsherd among the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

“ Woe to the one who argues with his Maker— one clay pot among many. Does clay say to the one forming it,‘ What are you making?’ Or does your work say,‘ He has no hands’?

Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker![ Let] the potsherd[ strive] with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

Woe to him who strives with his Maker— a clay pot among the clay pots of the earth! Shall the clay ask him who fashions it,‘ What are you making?’ or your work,‘ He has no hands?’

But who indeed are you– a mere human being– to talk back to God? Does what is molded say to the molder,“ Why have you made me like this?”Has the potter no right to make from the same lump of clay one vessel for special use and another for ordinary use?

Yet, LORD, you are our father. We are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the product of your labor.

“ I, the LORD, say:‘ O nation of Israel, can I not deal with you as this potter deals with the clay? In my hands, you, O nation of Israel, are just like the clay in this potter’s hand.’

But for this purpose I have caused you to stand: to show you my strength, and so that my name may be declared in all the earth.You are still exalting yourself against my people by not releasing them.

I set a trap for you, Babylon; you were caught before you knew it. You fought against me. So you were found and captured.

Your thinking is perverse! Should the potter be regarded as clay? Should the thing made say about its maker,“ He didn’t make me”? Or should the pottery say about the potter,“ He doesn’t understand”?

Does an ax exalt itself over the one who wields it, or a saw magnify itself over the one who cuts with it? As if a scepter should brandish the one who raises it, or a staff should lift up what is not made of wood!

There is no wisdom and there is no understanding, and there is no counsel against the LORD.

Would you indeed annul my justice? Would you declare me guilty so that you might be right?Do you have an arm as powerful as God’s, and can you thunder with a voice like his?

Distress and anguish terrify him; they prevail against him like a king ready to launch an attack,for he stretches out his hand against God, and vaunts himself against the Almighty,defiantly charging against him with a thick, strong shield!

The kings of the earth form a united front; the rulers collaborate against the LORD and his anointed king.They say,“ Let’s tear off the shackles they’ve put on us! Let’s free ourselves from their ropes!”The one enthroned in heaven laughs in disgust; the Lord taunts them.Then he angrily speaks to them and terrifies them in his rage, saying,“ I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy hill.”The king says,“ I will announce the LORD’S decree. He said to me:‘ You are my son! This very day I have become your father!Ask me, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the ends of the earth as your personal property.You will break them with an iron scepter; you will smash them like a potter’s jar!’”

Or are we trying to provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we really stronger than he is?
