耶和華又曰、我之選民、為我臣僕、可為證、灼知予、篤信予、以我為上帝、在我之先、在我之後、無他上帝。

耶和华对偶像说：“陈明你们的理由。”雅各的王说：“拿出你们的证据吧。”告诉我们将要发生的事，给我们说说以前发生的事，我们好思想，以便明白事情的结局。向我们宣告将来的事，告诉我们以后会发生什么，好叫我们知道你们是神明。不论降福降祸，显显身手吧，好叫我们一同惊惧！看啊，你们实在算不得什么，你们所做的毫无意义，拜你们的人真是可憎！“我使一人从北方兴起，他来了，他在东方求告我的名。他必把掌权者像灰泥一样踏在脚下，像窑匠踩泥一样践踏。谁从太初就宣告这事，让我们知道呢？谁预先讲明这事，让我们说他能未卜先知呢？谁也没有说过，谁也没有预言过，谁也没有听见你们说过什么。

你可以提醒我，你我可以理论，你可以提出理由证明自己的清白。

上帝说：“众海岛啊，要在我面前安静！让众民重新拿出勇力，让他们前来说话，让我们一起来理论。

谁能与我相比？让他告诉我。自从我设立这古老的民族以来所发生的事和将要发生的事，让他告诉我。不要恐惧，不要害怕，我不是早已告诉过你们吗？你们是我的证人。除我以外还有真神吗？没有，没有别的磐石，一个也没有。’”制造偶像的真是无用，他们珍爱的偶像毫无价值。拜神像的人目盲眼瞎，愚昧无知，自找羞辱。

从日出之地到日落之处，大能的上帝耶和华召唤世人。

所以，在很久以前，事情还没有发生时就向你预言这些事，免得你说这些是你的偶像做的，是你雕刻和铸造的偶像命定的。“你已经听见了，看看这一切，难道你还不承认吗？现在我要把新事，把你不知道的隐秘事告诉你。

以利亚走到众人面前说：“你们三心二意要到什么时候呢？如果耶和华是上帝，你们当跟从祂；如果巴力是上帝，你们就跟从他吧！”他们都默不作声。以利亚继续对众人说：“耶和华的先知现在只剩下我一人，巴力的先知却有四百五十人。请给我们牵两头公牛来，巴力的先知可以选一头，切成块放在柴上，但不要点火；我会把另一头公牛预备好，放在柴上，也不点火。然后，你们求告你们神明的名字，我求告耶和华，那听祷告降下火来的就是上帝。”众人非常赞同他的主意。

四围的列国啊，你们快快聚集到那里吧！”耶和华啊，求你差遣大能的勇士降临。

万民啊，你们要听！世人啊，不论贵贱贫富，都要留心听！

如果你们不愿意事奉耶和华，今天就选择你们的神明吧，或大河那边你们祖先事奉的神明，或你们这里亚摩利人的神明。至于我和我全家，我们必事奉耶和华。”民众答道：“我们决不背弃耶和华去事奉别的神明，因为我们的上帝耶和华曾领我们和我们的祖先脱离埃及人的奴役，在我们眼前行大神迹，一路保护我们安然经过列邦。耶和华把这地方的亚摩利人等外族人从我们面前赶走了，我们必事奉祂，因为祂是我们的上帝。”约书亚说：“你们不能事奉耶和华，祂是一位圣洁的上帝，祂痛恨不贞，必不赦免你们的过犯和罪恶。如果你们背弃耶和华，去拜外族的神明，尽管祂曾经恩待你们，也必降祸给你们，毁灭你们。”民众答道：“不，我们一定要事奉耶和华。”约书亚说：“现在你们自己作证，你们已选择事奉耶和华。”民众答道：“我们愿意自己作证。”约书亚说：“这样，你们现在就要摒弃你们中间的外族神明，专心归向以色列的上帝耶和华。”民众答道：“我们必事奉我们的上帝耶和华，听从祂的话。”

到了献晚祭的时候，以利亚先知走到坛前祷告：“亚伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的上帝耶和华啊，求你今天让这些人知道你是以色列的上帝，我是你的仆人，我是按你的命令做这一切事。耶和华啊，求你应允我，应允我，好让众人知道你耶和华是上帝，你要使他们回心转意。”于是，耶和华降火烧尽了祭物、木柴、石头、尘土，甚至沟里的水。众人看见这情景，都俯伏在地高呼：“耶和华是上帝！耶和华是上帝！”

“你们一起来听吧。假神中有谁曾预言过这些事？耶和华所拣选的人必成就祂的旨意，他的臂膀必攻击迦勒底人。

“列国的流亡者啊，你们要聚集到这里来。那些抬着木头神像、向不能救人的神明祷告的人真愚昧！你们要彼此商议，陈明你们的理由。谁早已预言过今天发生的事？谁很久以前就说过这些预言？难道不是我耶和华吗？除我以外别无他神。我是公义的上帝，我是救主，除我以外别无他神。

我从太初就预言末后的事，从亘古就宣布将来的事。我的旨意必成就，我的计划必实现。
