約瑟將食物供養他父親和他弟兄、以及他父親全家，各照弱小人口的需要。

他又對他們說：『你們很聰明地廢棄了上帝的誡命，為要遵守自己的傳統規矩！因為摩西說過：「要孝敬你的父親和母親」；又說：「誹謗父親或母親的、必須死」；你們倒說：「人若對父親或母親說，你可由我得益之物、已經用做「各耳板」了，就是說、用做獻神的禮物了，你們就再不容他對父親或母親作甚麼孝敬的事。

但寡婦若有兒女或孫子孫女，他們要先對自己的家學着孝敬，將回敬的奉養報答父母和祖父母：這在上帝面前是可蒙悅納的。

埃及地都在你面前；只管叫你父親和你弟兄住在這地最好的區域；他們可以住在歌珊地。你若知道他們中間有能幹的人，要立他們做牧長來看管我所有的牲畜。

你們倒說：『無論何人對父親或母親說：「你可由我得益之物、已經用做獻神禮物了」；這麼一說，他便可以不必敬奉父親或母親！那就是你們竟因了你們的傳統規矩而取消上帝的話了！
