你們要說：「你僕人從幼年到如今、都是養牲畜的人：我們如此，我們的祖宗也如此」。這樣，你們就可以住在歌珊地了，因為凡牧羊的都是埃及人所厭惡的。』約瑟進去告訴法老說：『我父親和我的弟兄、以及他們的羊羣、牛羣、和他們一切所有的、都從迦南地來了；如今在歌珊地呢。約瑟從他的全體弟兄中挑出了五個人，引進到法老面前。法老問約瑟的弟兄說：『你們作的甚麼的職業？』他們對法老說：『你僕人是牧羊的：我們如此，我們的祖宗也如此。』他們對法老說：『我們來、是要在這地寄居的，因為饑荒在迦南地很嚴重，那裏沒有牧場可以供給你僕人的羊羣：現在求王准僕人住在歌珊地。』法老對約瑟說：『你父親和你弟兄到你這裏來；埃及地都在你面前；只管叫你父親和你弟兄住在這地最好的區域；他們可以住在歌珊地。你若知道他們中間有能幹的人，要立他們做牧長來看管我所有的牲畜。

惟獨在歌珊地、以色列人那裏、沒有冰雹。
