So Moses went back to the Lord and said,“ Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold.

And Moses returned unto Jehovah, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.

你们不可做银的神像和金的神像和我相比，你们决不可为自己做这些神像。

第二天，摩西对人民说：“你们犯了大罪，现在我要上耶和华那里去，或者我可以为你们赎罪。”

为了你们所犯的一切罪，作了耶和华看为恶的事，惹他发怒，我就像先前那样，俯伏在耶和华面前，四十昼夜，不吃不喝。因为耶和华向你们大发烈怒，要消灭你们，我就很惧怕；但是那一次耶和华也听了我的恳求。

“不可为自己做偶像，也不可做天上、地下和地底下水中各物的形象。

祷告说：‘我的神啊，我感觉羞耻惭愧，不敢向我的神你仰面；因为我们的罪孽多至灭顶，我们的罪过滔天。从我们列祖的日子直到今日，我们罪恶深重，由于我们的罪孽，我们和我们的王，以及祭司，都被交在各地的列王手中：被刀杀、被掳掠、被抢夺，丢脸蒙羞，就像今天的光景一样。

耶和华啊！我们和我们的君王、领袖、列祖，都满面羞愧，因为我们得罪了你。

耶和华以色列的神啊，你是公义的！我们现今才可以留下，成为逃脱的人。看哪，我们在你面前是有罪过的，因此没有人能在你面前站立得住。’”

摩西在那里与耶和华在一起共四十昼夜，不吃饭，也不喝水。他把这约的话写在两块版上，这就是十诫。

我们犯了罪，行了不义，作了恶，背叛了你，偏离了你的诫命典章；

以色列众人都违背了你的律法，偏离了你，不听从你的话，因此，神的仆人摩西的律法书上所记载的咒诅和誓言，都倾倒在我们身上；我们实在得罪了神。

在一切临到我们身上的事上，你都是公义的；因为你所行的是信实的，我们所行的是邪恶的。
