六日要勞碌，作你一切工作。但第七日是屬於耶和華你神的安息日；這一日，你和你的兒女、僕婢、牛驢和一切牲畜，以及你城裡的寄居者，不可作任何的工，好使你的僕婢可以和你一樣享受安息。你要記住：你在埃及地作過奴僕；耶和華你的神用大能的手和伸出來的膀臂，把你從那裡領出來，因此耶和華你的神吩咐你要守安息日。

六日可以工作，但第七日是歇工的安息日，是歸耶和華為聖的，凡是在這安息日工作的，必須把那人處死。所以，以色列人要守安息日，他們世世代代要遵行安息日的規例，作為永遠的約。

他們說：“為甚麼我們禁食，你不看呢？為甚麼我們刻苦己身，你不理會呢？”看哪！你們在禁食的日子，仍然追求自己喜歡作的事，欺壓為你們作工的人。

在安息日，不可在你們任何的住處生火。”
