“ Do not spread false reports. Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness.

If a false witness rises against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing,then both men in the controversy shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges who serve in those days.And the judges shall make careful inquiry, and indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has testified falsely against his brother,then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so you shall put away the evil from among you.And those who remain shall hear and fear, and hereafter they shall not again commit such evil among you.Your eye shall not pity: life shall be for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death,but found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last two false witnesses came forwardand said,“ This fellow said,‘ I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’”

You shall not go about as a talebearer among your people; nor shall you take a stand against the life of your neighbor: I am the Lord.

Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, And whoever spreads slander is a fool.

Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven,“ Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.

And why not say,“ Let us do evil that good may come”?— as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say. Their condemnation is just.

‘ You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.

A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies shall perish.

He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;

Therefore, putting away lying,“ Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.

Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying,“ And what shall we do?” So he said to them,“ Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.”

He said to Him,“ Which ones?” Jesus said,“‘ You shall not murder,’‘ You shall not commit adultery,’‘ You shall not steal,’‘ You shall not bear false witness,’

A false witness shall perish, But the man who hears him will speak endlessly.

Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord,“ Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.”

and seat two men, scoundrels, before him to bear witness against him, saying,“ You have blasphemed God and the king.” Then take him out, and stone him, that he may die.So the men of his city, the elders and nobles who were inhabitants of his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them.They proclaimed a fast, and seated Naboth with high honor among the people.And two men, scoundrels, came in and sat before him; and the scoundrels witnessed against him, against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying,“ Naboth has blasphemed God and the king!” Then they took him outside the city and stoned him with stones, so that he died.

And he has slandered your servant to my Lord the king, but my Lord the king is like the angel of God. Therefore do what is good in your eyes.

What shall be given to you, Or what shall be done to you, You false tongue?

And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will appease him and make you secure.”So they took the money and did as they were instructed; and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.

An evildoer gives heed to false lips; A liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue.

The north wind brings forth rain, And a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.

For I heard many mocking:“ Fear on every side!”“ Report,” they say,“ and we will report it!” All my acquaintances watched for my stumbling, saying,“ Perhaps he can be induced; Then we will prevail against him, And we will take our revenge on him.”

A disreputable witness scorns justice, And the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.

A man who bears false witness against his neighbor Is like a club, a sword, and a sharp arrow.

Then the king said,“ And where is your master’s son?” And Ziba said to the king,“ Indeed he is staying in Jerusalem, for he said,‘ Today the house of Israel will restore the kingdom of my father to me.’”

He who speaks truth declares righteousness, But a false witness, deceit.

Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, For would you deceive with your lips?

Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; For false witnesses have risen against me, And such as breathe out violence.
