But I say that wisdom is better than might, though the poor man’s wisdom is despised and his words are not heard.

我則曰、智愈於力、然貧者之智、為人蔑視、言不見聽、

我竊思之、智愈於力、貧者之智、為人藐忽、不從其言。

我自言曰、智慧雖愈於勇力、貧者之智慧仍被人藐忽、不聽其言、

So I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength.” But the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer heeded.

So I said,“ It’s better to be wise than to be powerful.” But people look down on the poor man’s wisdom. No one pays any attention to what he says.

So even though wisdom is better than strength, those who are wise will be despised if they are poor. What they say will not be appreciated for long.

And I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength, but the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heeded.”

So I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength.” But the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are ignored.

Then I said:“ Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, And his words are not heard.

Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

And I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength, but the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heeded.”

Then said I, Wisdom[ is] better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom[ is] despised, and his words are not heard.

So I concluded that wisdom is better than might, but a poor man’s wisdom is despised; no one ever listens to his advice.

Then I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength.” Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

Wisdom gives strength to the wise man more than ten rulers who are in a city.

A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might,

A wise man scales the city of the mighty and brings down the stronghold in which they trust.

And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying,“ Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands?Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

A rich man’s wealth is his strong city; the poverty of the poor is their ruin.

The Pharisees answered them,“ Have you also been deceived?Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him?But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”

For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him,“ Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”He answered,“ Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”They said to him,“ What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”He answered them,“ I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?”And they reviled him, saying,“ You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from.”The man answered,“ Why, this is an amazing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes.We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”They answered him,“ You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they cast him out.

For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in,and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say,“ You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man,“ You stand over there,” or,“ Sit down at my feet,”have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court?
