As no one has power over the wind to contain it, so no one has power over the time of their death. As no one is discharged in time of war, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.

No one can stop the wind from blowing. And no one has the power to decide when they will die. No one is let out of the army in times of war. And evil won’t let go of those who practice it.

No man has power to retain the spirit, or power over the day of death. There is no discharge from war, nor will wickedness deliver those who are given to it.

None of us can hold back our spirit from departing. None of us has the power to prevent the day of our death. There is no escaping that obligation, that dark battle. And in the face of death, wickedness will certainly not rescue the wicked.

For you say,“ We have made a treaty with death, with Sheol we have made an agreement. When the overwhelming judgment sweeps by it will not reach us. For we have made a lie our refuge, we have hidden ourselves in a deceitful word.”

And just as people are appointed to die once, and then to face judgment,

The wicked will be thrown down in his trouble, but the righteous have refuge even in the threat of death.

No man can live on without experiencing death, or deliver his life from the power of Sheol.( Selah)

For indeed he was crucified by reason of weakness, but he lives because of God’s power. For we also are weak in him, but we will live together with him, because of God’s power toward you.

The wicked are turned back and sent to Sheol; this is the destiny of all the nations that ignore God,

They trust in their wealth and boast in their great riches.Certainly a man cannot rescue his brother; he cannot pay God an adequate ransom price( the ransom price for a human life is too high, and people go to their final destiny),so that he might continue to live forever and not experience death.

Surely you put them in slippery places; you bring them down to ruin.How desolate they become in a mere moment! Terrifying judgments make their demise complete!They are like a dream after one wakes up. O Lord, when you awake you will despise them.Yes, my spirit was bitter, and my insides felt sharp pain.I was ignorant and lacked insight; I was as senseless as an animal before you.But I am continually with you; you hold my right hand.You guide me by your wise advice, and then you will lead me to a position of honor.Whom do I have in heaven but you? I desire no one but you on earth.My flesh and my heart may grow weak, but God always protects my heart and gives me stability.Yes, look! Those far from you die; you destroy everyone who is unfaithful to you.But as for me, God’s presence is all I need. I have made the sovereign LORD my shelter, as I declare all the things you have done.

It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;

Your treaty with death will be dissolved; your agreement with Sheol will not last. When the overwhelming judgment sweeps by, you will be overrun by it.

If God were to set his heart on it, and gather in his spirit and his breath,

Certainly we must die, and are like water spilled on the ground that cannot be gathered up again. But God does not take away life; instead he devises ways for the banished to be restored.

Yet God will make you a permanent heap of ruins. He will scoop you up and remove you from your home; he will uproot you from the land of the living.( Selah)When the godly see this, they will be filled with awe, and will mock the evildoer, saying:“ Look, here is the man who would not make God his protector! He trusted in his great wealth and was confident about his plans to destroy others.”

So they tracked them as far as the Jordan. The road was filled with clothes and equipment that the Syrians had discarded in their haste. The scouts went back and told the king.

Who really knows if the human spirit ascends upward, and the animal’s spirit descends into the earth?

When you go to war against your enemies and see chariotry and troops who outnumber you, do not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt, is with you.As you move forward for battle, the priest will approach and say to the soldiers,“ Listen, Israel! Today you are moving forward to do battle with your enemies. Do not be fainthearted. Do not fear and tremble or be terrified because of them,for the LORD your God goes with you to fight on your behalf against your enemies to give you victory.”Moreover, the officers are to say to the troops,“ Who among you has built a new house and not dedicated it? He may go home, lest he die in battle and someone else dedicate it.Or who among you has planted a vineyard and not benefited from it? He may go home, lest he die in battle and someone else benefit from it.Or who among you has become engaged to a woman but has not married her? He may go home, lest he die in battle and someone else marry her.”In addition, the officers are to say to the troops,“ Who among you is afraid and fainthearted? He may go home so that he will not make his fellow soldier’s heart as fearful as his own.”
