Everyone’s toil is for their mouth, yet their appetite is never satisfied.

People eat up everything they work to get. But they are never satisfied.

All the toil of man is for his mouth, yet his appetite is not satisfied.

All people spend their lives scratching for food, but they never seem to have enough.

All of a person’s labor is for his stomach, yet the appetite is never satisfied.

勞力的人為自己勞力，因為他的口腹催逼他。

其實，敬虔加上知足就是大利。因為我們沒有帶甚麼到世上來，也不能帶甚麼去；只要有衣有食，我們就該知足。

「所以，我告訴你們，不要為你們的生命憂慮吃甚麼喝甚麼，或為你們的身體憂慮穿甚麼。生命不勝於飲食嗎？身體不勝於衣裳嗎？

喜愛銀子的，不因得銀子滿足；喜愛財富的，也不因得利益知足。這也是虛空。

又對亞當說：「你既聽從你妻子的話，吃了那樹上所出的，就是我吩咐你不可吃的，土地必因你的緣故受詛咒；你必終生勞苦才能從土地得吃的。土地必給你長出荊棘和蒺藜來；你也要吃田間的五穀菜蔬。你必汗流滿面才有食物可吃，直到你歸了土地，因為你是從土地而出的。你本是塵土，仍要歸回塵土。」

人若生一百個兒子，活許多歲數；他即使壽命很長，心裏卻不因福樂而滿足，又不得埋葬；我說，那流掉的胎比他倒好。

然後要對我自己說：你這個人哪，你有許多財物積存，可供多年享用，只管安安逸逸吃喝快樂吧！』
