有人天主賜之貲財產業尊榮、心之所欲、毫無所缺、惟天主不使之能享、他人享之、此亦屬於虛、實為大患、

God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ability to enjoy them, and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.

耶和华啊，求你伸手救我脱离这些人，脱离这些只在今生有福分的世人。你使他们财宝无数。他们儿女众多，还把财富留给子孙。

你没有求富贵和尊荣，但我会一并赐给你，使你有生之年在列王中无人能比。

他们胖得眼睛凸出，心中充满罪恶。

他们家中平安无惧，他们不被上帝杖打。他们的公牛繁殖力强，他们的母牛从不掉胎。他们让孩童像羊群一样走到户外，尽情地欢跳。他们伴着铃鼓和竖琴歌唱，在笛声中欢喜不已。他们一生幸福，安然下到阴间。他们对上帝说，‘离开我们，我们不想学习你的道。全能者是谁，竟要我们事奉祂？向祂祷告有何益处？’

那时，我就可以对自己说，“你积存这么多财产，一生享用不尽，现在大可高枕无忧、尽情地吃喝玩乐吧！”’但上帝对他说，‘无知的人啊，今晚就要取走你的命！你所预备的一切留给谁享用呢？’”

有一个人孤孤单单，没有儿子也没有兄弟，却终身劳碌。他虽然家道丰裕，仍不满足，从未想过“我不停地劳碌，放弃一切享受，究竟是为了谁？”这也是虚空，是一种悲哀。

上帝对所罗门说：“你既然有此心愿，不为自己求富贵、资财、尊荣、长寿，也没有求灭绝你的敌人，只求智慧和知识以治理我的子民——我交在你王权之下的百姓，

“与你们素不相识的民族必吃光你们土地的出产和劳碌所得，你们必常受欺压，

这是多么可悲啊！人怎样来，也要怎样去，为风劳碌有什么益处呢？

我们的土地被陌生人侵占，我们的房屋落入外族人手中。

我又看见人的一切劳碌和成就原是出于争强好胜。这也是虚空，如同捕风。

王啊，至高的上帝曾将国位、权力、尊荣、威严赐给你的先王尼布甲尼撒，

“你们中间的外族人要日益兴旺，你们却要日渐衰微。

你们到了那里，会看见当地的居民毫无防范，那里地大物博，一无所缺。上帝已经把那地方赐给我们了。”

大卫年纪老迈，享尽富贵尊荣后，寿终正寝。他儿子所罗门继位。

外族人耗尽了他的力量，他却茫然不知。他头发斑白，却浑然不觉。

我大动工程，为自己建造房屋，栽种葡萄园，开垦花圃园囿，种植各种果树，开凿池塘，浇灌茂林。我买了仆婢，又有生在家中的仆婢，拥有的牛羊远超过有史以来耶路撒冷的任何人。我为自己积聚金银，搜罗列王和各省的奇珍异宝，得到男女歌优及许多妃嫔——都是世人所想望的。这样，我便财势日增，享誉盛名，超过耶路撒冷历来所有的人。然而，我仍然保持智慧。凡我眼睛爱看的、心里渴慕的，我都随心所欲，尽情享受。我的心从劳碌中得到欢乐，这是我劳碌所得的回报。

因为祂要带你们到一个佳美之地。那里的谷中和山间流淌着条条溪流、股股清泉；那里盛产大麦、小麦、葡萄、无花果、石榴、橄榄油和蜂蜜；那里食物充足，一无所缺；那里矿产资源丰富，石头就是铁，山中可以采铜。你们吃饱喝足后，要赞美你们的上帝耶和华，因为祂赐给你们那佳美之地。

人生不过是幻影，劳碌奔波却一场空，积蓄财富却不知谁来享用。

耶和华使所罗门倍受以色列人尊崇，赐他君王的威严，超过在他之前的所有以色列王。
