『婦人所生的人歲數短促，滿有煩擾。

因為人之生也、總有苦難，就如火星、總是往上飛的。

那一夜王睡不着覺，就吩咐人拿《備忘錄》來；便有人在王面前一直地唸。

因為我們因你的怒氣而消滅，因你的烈怒而惶恐到死。你將我們的罪孽擺在你面前，將我們的隱惡擺在你聖容之光輝中。我們的日子都在你的震怒中過去；我們度盡了歲月、像歎了一口氣。這其中、我們的年日是七十歲；若是強壯，可到八十歲；但其中所矜誇的、不過是勞苦愁煩迅速地過去，我們也飛沒了。

當患難的日子我尋求主；夜間我直伸出手來禱告，總不懈怠；我的心不肯受安慰。我懷念着上帝，悲哀歎息；我哀怨默想，心靈發昏。（細拉）你使我眼巴巴睡不着覺；我煩亂不安，連話都說不出。

雅各對法老說：『我寄居在世的年日已有一百三十歲：我一生的年日又少又苦，趕不上我祖宗寄居在世的日子一生的年日。』
