那時所羅門說：『永恆主把日頭立在天上，但是永恆主曾經說過他要居於暗霧之中。所以我堅決為你建造了巍峨之殿，一個定所讓你永遠居住。』於是王轉臉四顧，給以色列全體大眾祝福，以色列全體大眾都站着。所羅門說：『永恆主以色列的上帝是當受祝頌的，因為他對我父親大衛親口說過，也親手作成；他說：「自從我領我人民以色列出埃及的日子以來、我都未曾從以色列眾族派中選擇一座城來建殿、讓我的名可以長在那裏，我只揀選了大衛來管理我人民以色列。」我父親大衛心裏原有意思要為永恆主耶和華以色列之上帝的名建殿；但永恆主卻對我父親大衛說：「你心裏有意思要為我的名建殿，你心裏這意思固然很好。可不是你要建殿的，乃是你兒子、從你自己腰腎中生出的、他才要為我的名建殿。」現在永恆主已經實行了他所說過的話；我已經起來接替我父親大衛、坐以色列的王位、照永恆主所說過的，我已經為永恆主耶和華以色列之上帝的名建了殿了。在殿中我也為約櫃立個地方；在櫃中並且有永恆主的約、就是他領我們列祖出埃及地時候、同他們立的。』

有智慧的兒子使父親歡喜；愚頑的兒子使母親愁苦。
