永恆主也非常惱怒亞倫，要消滅他；那時候我也為亞倫禱告。

亞倫對他們說：『把你們的妻子和兒女耳朵上的金環摘下來，拿來給我。』眾民就把他們耳朵上的金環都摘下來，拿來給亞倫。亞倫從他們手裏接過來，用雕刻的器具雕造它，作成一隻鑄像的牛犢；他們就說：『以色列啊，這就是你們的神、那領你們從埃及地上來的！』亞倫看見，就在牛犢面前築了一座祭壇；又宣告說：明天要過節來事奉永恆主。

永恆主擊殺了人民，是因為他們對亞倫造的牛犢所作的事的緣故。

這樣的大祭司、虔聖、無邪、無染污、隔離罪人、高過諸天、正合乎我們所需要的。他無需乎像那些大祭司、每日先要替自己的罪、然後替人民的罪獻上祭物；因為他把自己獻上，就將這事儘一次作完了。律法是設立了許多人做大祭司、總是有弱點的人；但律法之後起誓的話卻是設立了一個兒子、是完全勝任到永遠的。

摩西對亞倫說：『這人民向你作了甚麼，你竟使他們陷於大罪呀？』
