Give the people these orders:‘ You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, but be very careful.

Here are the orders I want you to give the people. Tell them,‘ You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives. They are from the family line of Esau. They live in Seir. They will be afraid of you. But be very careful.

and command the people,“ You are about to pass through the territory of your brothers, the people of Esau, who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. So be very careful.

Give these orders to the people:“ You will pass through the country belonging to your relatives the Edomites, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. The Edomites will feel threatened, so be careful.

Command the people: You are about to travel through the territory of your brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, so be very careful.

and command the people, saying,“ You are going to pass through the territory of your brothers the sons of Esau, who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. So be very careful;

And command thou the people, saying, Ye[ are] to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:

Instruct these people as follows:‘ You are about to cross the border of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who inhabit Seir. They will be afraid of you, so watch yourselves carefully.

摩西從加低斯差遣使者去見以東王說：『你的邦親以色列這樣說：你知道我們所遭遇的一切艱難：我們的祖宗下到埃及，我們在埃及住了許多年日；埃及人惡待我們和我們的祖宗；我們向永恆主哀叫，永恆主聽了我們的聲音，就差遣使者把我們從埃及領出來；如今你看，我們都在你邊界上的城加低斯呢。求你容我們從你的地經過；我們不從田地和葡萄園經過，也不喝井裏的水，我們只走王家大道，不偏向右、也不偏向左，直到你的地界都經過了。』以東對以色列說：『你不可從我這裏經過，免得我帶刀出去對你接戰。』以色列人對他說：『我們要從大路上去；我和我的牲畜若喝你的水，總要給價值；沒有別事，我只要步行過去罷了。』以東說：『你不可經過。』以東就率領重兵出來，要用強硬的手對付以色列。這樣以東既不肯給以色列從他的地界經過，以色列就轉了方向、離開他們。

那時以東的族系長驚惶，摩押的權貴被戰兢抓住，迦南的居民都震撼搖動：

『你不可厭惡以東人，因為他是你的宗弟兄；不可厭惡埃及人，因為你在他的地做過寄居者。

好使你們無可責備、而又天真，在彎曲乖僻的世代中做上帝的兒女、無瑕無疵；你們顯於其中像發光之體在世界裏，

摩押人極其懼怕以色列民、因為他們眾多；摩押人對以色列人真是憎厭了。摩押人對米甸的長老說：『現在這一集團要把我們四圍所有的一概餂盡、就像牛餂盡田野的青草一般。』那時西撥的兒子巴勒做摩押王；

照樣子，你們的光也應當照在人面前，使他們看見你們的好行為，便將榮耀歸與你們在天上的父。

於是對他們說：『你們要留心，要自守、免去各樣的貪婪；因為一個人的生命、不在乎他資財之富餘。』

因你對兄弟雅各所行的強暴、羞愧必籠罩着你，你也必永遠被剪除。當外族人擄掠雅各財物的日子，外人進入他城門，拈鬮要分耶路撒冷，你站在一旁那日子，你也好像敵人之一呀！當你兄弟的日子、他遭遇禍患之日，你不應該瞪着眼看着呀。當猶大人被滅的日子，你不應該因着他們而沾沾自喜呀；當災難的日子、你不應該誇口說大話呀。當我人民遭遇患難的日子，你不應該進他的門呀；當他遭遇患難的日子，你也不應該瞪着眼看他受苦呀；當他遭遇患難的日子，你不應該伸手搶他的財物呀。

看哪，如今我要回我本族之民那裏去了；來吧，我報給你知道這族之民日後必怎樣待你的人民。』他便發表言論歌來、說：『比珥的兒子巴蘭發神諭說：眼目睜開着的人發神諭說：得聽上帝的話語、明白至高者的知識、得見全能者的異象、身體仆倒而眼目開着的人發神諭說：我看他，卻不是在現時；我望着他，卻不是臨近的：必有一顆星從雅各而出，必有權柄之杖從以色列中興起；他必擊碎摩押的鬢邊、和鬨嚷之人的頭頂。以東必成為他的領土，仇敵西珥必成了他的佔領地；惟獨以色列奮勇而行。

你們對於外人要用智慧行事，要爭取時機。

所以要仔細留意、你們怎樣地行；不要做無智慧的，總要做有智慧的人。
