住棚節期間，你們要和兒女、僕婢、同城的利未人、寄居者及孤兒寡婦一起歡慶。

他們一邊飲酒，一邊頌讚金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石所造的神明。突然，有人手的指頭出現，在燈臺對面王宮的粉牆上寫字。王看見那隻手在寫字，臉色驟變，驚恐萬分，兩腿發軟，雙膝顫抖。

願那日被黑暗和陰影籠罩，被密雲覆蓋，被陰暗淹沒。

這使我充滿痛苦，我陷入劇痛中，如同分娩的婦人，我因聽見的話而驚慌，因看見的景象而害怕。我心慌意亂，驚懼不堪，我期盼的黃昏卻令我恐懼。

你們像糾結的荊棘，又像酩酊大醉的人，要如乾稭被火燒盡。

為你放聲痛哭，把塵埃撒在頭上，在灰中打滾，又為你剃頭披麻，悲痛哀傷。

她回到家時，拿八正在大擺宴席，排場如御宴。她見拿八心情愉快，喝得酩酊大醉，就什麼也沒告訴他，等第二天早上再說。次日清晨，拿八酒醒以後，他妻子把發生的一切告訴他，他嚇得昏死過去，身體僵硬如石。過了十天，耶和華擊打拿八，他就死了。

押沙龍吩咐僕人說：「你們要留意，當暗嫩喝得正高興的時候，我叫你們殺他，你們就要動手。不要畏縮，要剛強勇敢！因為這是我的命令。」押沙龍的僕人就照命令把暗嫩殺了。王的眾子都起來騎上騾子逃走了。他們還在路上的時候，有人稟告大衛說：「押沙龍把王子都殺了，無一倖免！」王便站起來撕裂衣服，躺在地上。他的臣僕也都撕裂衣服，站在旁邊。

撤去你們嘈雜的歌聲吧，我不想聽到你們的琴音。
