他去跟祭司長們和守衛長們商量怎樣把耶穌交給他們。

他們又煽動民眾、長老和經文士們就忽然來抓住司提反，把他帶到議會，

保羅知道有一部分人是撒都該人，另一部分是法利賽人，就在議會中喊著：「各位兄弟，我是法利賽人，也是法利賽人的兒子。我現在受審，是與死人復活的盼望有關。」他說了這話，法利賽人和撒都該人就起了爭執，會眾也分裂了。原來撒都該人說沒有復活，沒有天使，也沒有靈，但法利賽人卻承認這一切。於是他們大大地喧嚷起來。有些法利賽派的經文士們站起來激烈地爭辯，說：「我們查不出這個人有什麼錯。也許有靈或天使對他說過話呢！」

在那一天，撒都該人來到耶穌那裡，他們一向說沒有復活的事。他們問耶穌，說：「老師，摩西說：如果一個人死了，沒有兒女，他的一個兄弟就要娶他的妻子，為他兄弟留後裔。

約翰看見許多法利賽人和撒都該人也來要受他的洗禮，就對他們說：「你們這些毒蛇的子孫！誰指示你們逃避那將要來臨的震怒呢？

於是守衛長與差役們一起去把使徒們帶來，並沒有用暴力，因為怕民眾用石頭砸他們。

當聖殿的守衛長和祭司長們聽到這些話的時候，就對使徒們的事感到困惑，不知道這事會如何發展。

於是猶大領著一隊士兵，還有祭司長們和法利賽人的差役們，帶著燈籠、火把、兵器來到那裡。

祭司長們和長老們挑唆眾人，叫他們要巴拉巴，而除滅耶穌。

這樣，神的話語不斷擴展，在耶路撒冷門徒的人數大大增多，並且有一大群祭司也聽從了這信仰。

到了清晨，所有的祭司長和民間的長老商議對付耶穌，為要處死他。他們把耶穌捆起來帶走，交給總督彼拉多。

那時，祭司長們和民間的長老們聚集在叫該亞法的大祭司的宅院裡，商議要用詭計拘捕耶穌，把他殺掉。

同樣，祭司長們也與經文士們和長老們一起嘲笑，說：

門徒們這才領悟耶穌所說的不是要他們提防餅的酵母，而是要他們提防法利賽人和撒都該人的教導。

他們派了自己的門徒們與希律黨的人一同去見耶穌，說：「老師，我們知道你是真誠的，並且按真理教導神的道。你不顧忌任何人，因為你不看人的情面。

大祭司亞納、該亞法、約翰、亞歷山大，以及大祭司家族的人都在那裡。

你們當記住我對你們說過的話：「沒有一個奴僕大過他的主人。」他們既然逼迫了我，也會逼迫你們；如果他們遵守了我的話，也就會遵守你們的話。
