After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them:“ Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe.

After they had talked it over, Peter got up and spoke to them.“ Brothers,” he said,“ you know that some time ago God chose me. He appointed me to take the good news to the Gentiles. He wanted them to hear the good news and believe.

And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them,“ Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.

At the meeting, after a long discussion, Peter stood and addressed them as follows:“ Brothers, you all know that God chose me from among you some time ago to preach to the Gentiles so that they could hear the Good News and believe.

葆樂、巴拿巴力與之辯。眾乃推定葆樂巴拿巴及其他同道數人、就耶路撒冷之宗徒長老決之；

反之、彼等洞察予實受有傳福音於未割者之使命、適如伯鐸祿之傳福音於受割之人也。蓋啟發伯鐸祿、使為本國之宗徒者、主也；而啟發鄙人、使為外邦之宗徒者、亦主也。彼等既見予所受聖寵之不虛、於是號稱教會柱石之雅各伯基法及若望、相率與予及巴拿巴殷勤握手、以表心契；我往外邦、而彼等則傳道於受割禮者。

是故吾人之信德、起於所聞；所聞者何、即基督之福音是已。然則若輩豈未之聞乎？固已聞之矣。詩云：『佳音傳大地、聖道遍八荒。』尚得謂之未聞乎？

且起而下、與之同往、可弗疑也。』

天主早藉先知之口、預言基督必將蒙難、事已見應；

復以聖神假爾僕大維之口而言曰：「何列國之擾攘兮何萬民之猖狂。

如望應曰：『苟非自天授之、人亦何所受乎？

故任作何事、勿存怨尤、毋滋紛爭、

爾未擇予、而予擇爾、且命爾進而結實、長保厥實。如此、則爾因我名以求於父者、莫不見賜。

禱曰：『主、爾洞悉眾心、請示二人中孰為爾選、

然吾於生命置之度外、無所顧惜。但望能完成吾之行程、及所受於主耶穌之使命、以證天主恩寵之福音而已。

予亦語汝、汝乃磐石、予將建吾教會於斯石上、地獄之門、無以勝之。予願授子以天國之管籥；凡汝所縛於地者、在天亦當見縛。汝所釋於地者、在天亦當見釋。』

聖神命予與之同往、勿加岐視。與予同往者、尚有此兄弟六人。吾儕入其人之宅、彼告吾儕曾見一天神立於其室、曰：「遣人往約帕、邀西門別字伯鐸祿者至、彼將有以告汝；俾汝及全家咸蒙救恩。」予甫開言、聖神臨之、一如當日之臨吾儕也。予乃憶主之言曰：「如望以水施洗、而爾等將受聖神之洗焉。」夫天主既賜以靈賦、與吾儕信主耶穌基督時無異、予何人斯、能阻天主。』眾聞是語、悉皆默契而歸榮天主、曰：『由是觀之、天主普賜洪恩於異族、使由悔改而獲生命矣。』

方其禮主齋戒之際、聖神謂之曰：『為我甄別巴拿巴及掃羅、以赴我所命之任務。』

汝當遣人往約帕、邀別號伯鐸祿之西門者至、渠寓於海濱革工西門家中。」因即發人邀汝；汝來甚善、今吾儕悉在上主前、顧聞主所諭汝者。』伯鐸祿乃曰：『予茲確見天主之無偏無倚、一視同仁。蓋世界萬國、凡敬畏天主而行為正直者、莫不見悅於天主也。天主以其道託付義塞子孫、藉耶穌基督宣揚和平福音。耶穌基督者、萬有之主也。自如望傳洗禮以還、納匝勒人耶穌之事、已自加利利傳布猶太全境、爾等亦諒有所聞。天主沐以聖神、充以神力、足跡所至仁澤是施、脫人於魔、而賜以康復。以天主恆與之偕也。凡彼在猶太國及耶路撒冷之所行、吾人實為之證；而人竟懸之於木而殺之。第三日天主甦之、且使其顯現、不在廣眾之前、惟於天主所預定之見證、即其復活後飲食與共之吾曹是已。彼又命吾儕傳道於眾、證其已膺天主之命、而為黜陟幽明之主：眾先知亦為之證。凡信之者、必得賴其名而獲赦焉。』伯鐸祿言未竟、聖神降臨聽道之人。與伯鐸祿偕來之信徒、割禮中人也；見聖神之恩賜、亦傾注於異邦人之身、殊為詫異、以聞若輩操方言而讚揚天主也。於是伯鐸祿曰：『彼等既領聖神、與吾儕無異、孰能禁水而不為施洗耶？』即奉耶穌基督之名、領受洗禮、眾復請伯鐸祿逗留數日。

今當遣人往約帕、迎西門別號伯鐸祿者至、其人現寓海濱革工西門之家。』

二人意見既左、遂各自分道。巴拿巴與馬爾谷乘舟赴居比路；

主曰：『第往、斯人乃吾特選之器、將以吾名播諸異族與列王、以及義塞子孫。

『兄弟乎！聖神假大維之口、預言茹達斯引捕耶穌、此經已見應驗；
