宗徒長老與會、眾遂推選素孚眾望之巴撒巴樹德及西拉二人、偕葆樂巴拿巴同赴安提阿；並作書付之、書云：『充任宗徒長老之兄弟、敬候安提阿、敘利亞、基利嘉之異邦兄弟。

夫吾乃自由之人、眾人不得而奴焉；顧甘自為眾人之奴者何也、亦欲感化眾人、使最大多數棄邪歸正而已矣。故於猶太人、吾亦儼然以猶太人自居、所以感化猶太人也。於法內之人、吾亦儼然以法內之人自居、所以感化法內之人也；實則其法無與於我耳。於法外之人、吾亦儼然以法外之人自居、所以感化法外之人也；實則就天主及基督之妙法言之、吾亦法內之人耳。於弱者、吾亦欣然以弱者自居、所以感化弱者也。蓋我甘為一切人之一切所以拯救一切人也。吾之所為、莫非為福音之故；惟如此、始克共承福音所許之惠耳。

曩者爾等因基督之聖寵、而蒙天主之恩召；曾幾何時、爾等竟已背棄所天、而信從另一福音、此吾之所為驚訝不置者也。夫福音豈有二哉？特有人予爾攪亂、而欲混淆基督之福音耳。雖然、即在吾儕本人、或自天降臨之天神、苟其所傳於爾之福音、有異乎吾儕嚮所傳授者、皆宜服咒咀也。吾儕前已言之、茲予重復言之、倘有人授爾等以福音、異乎爾等嚮之所受者、則斯人之服咒咀也必矣。吾豈欲迎合世俗乎？抑求悅於天主乎？吾又焉能閹然而媚世乎？閹然媚世、則不得為基督之僕矣。

茲有美事、予本可托賴基督、毅然命爾行之；惟為成全愛德、寧以勸勉出之。我葆樂已龍鍾老矣；今且為基督耶穌之故、而遭受禁錮；

共歷諸邑、以耶路撒冷宗徒長老所立之教規授諸信徒遵守之；

是故吾儕特派樹德、西拉、俾為爾面述種切。

聖神命予與之同往、勿加岐視。與予同往者、尚有此兄弟六人。吾儕入其人之宅、

吾嘗自比諸最大之宗徒、亦未敢多讓也。

因此同心合意推選同人、遣之與吾所敬愛之巴拿巴、葆樂、連袂訪爾。

伯鐸祿延之入、予以款待。次日起身、相與登程、約帕數兄弟從行。

愛友乎、予早擬致書於爾、申論吾人所共承之救恩；今則更覺不容或緩、特馳書慰勉、極望爾等能不遺餘力、擁護當初所授於諸聖之信條。蓋此信條、一成不變；

次晨、吾儕隨葆樂同訪雅各伯、長老咸在、
