Elisha went to Damascus, the capital of Aram, where King Ben hadad lay sick. When someone told the king that the man of God had come,

Then Elisha came to Damascus. Now Ben hadad, the king of Aram, was sick, and it was told to him, saying,“ The man of God has come here.”

And it happened after this that Ben-Hadad king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up and besieged Samaria.

So he gathered men to him and became captain over a band of raiders, when David killed those of Zobah. And they went to Damascus and dwelt there, and reigned in Damascus.

Now Ben-Hadad the king of Syria gathered all his forces together; thirty-two kings were with him, with horses and chariots. And he went up and besieged Samaria, and made war against it.

For the head of Syria is Damascus, And the head of Damascus is Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be broken, So that it will not be a people.

And one of his servants said,“ None, my Lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.”

So Ben-Hadad said to him,“ The cities which my father took from your father I will restore; and you may set up marketplaces for yourself in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria.” Then Ahab said,“ I will send you away with this treaty.” So he made a treaty with him and sent him away.

And behold, a man of God went from Judah to Bethel by the word of the Lord, and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.

He divided his forces against them by night, and he and his servants attacked them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.

Now this is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.

Now when the sons of the prophets who were from Jericho saw him, they said,“ The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him, and bowed to the ground before him.

When the Gazites were told,“ Samson has come here!” they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city. They were quiet all night, saying,“ In the morning, when it is daylight, we will kill him.”

Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty men. So he went up to him; and there he was, sitting on the top of a hill. And he spoke to him:“ Man of God, the king has said,‘ Come down!’”So Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty,“ If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out,“ These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.

Then Asa took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the house of the Lord and the treasuries of the king’s house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants. And King Asa sent them to Ben-Hadad the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, who dwelt in Damascus, saying,
